Sure if you promise to pay for the engine in my Audi SQ5 if something happens and the dealer denies the warranty claim

You don't need to be an [censored]. It was a hypothetical question. I'm glad I don't drive some stupid Audi that requires special oil from the dealer.

Hmmm, Audi or Escape, the question is now. I would say requiring "special" oil is not too much for difference between Escape and Audi SQ5.
Euro manufacturers are more specific as what is allowed in engine. It stems from the fact that when they are built they are built with cultural and traditional variables of a country from which they are coming. That "special" oil is fairly easy available with other VW approved oils available in Wal mart for same price as regular synthetic 5W30 that Escape uses.

Kendall says the same thing as you. They list GT1 Max 5w30 for the 508 vehicle's.

508 and all the other extraneous BS exist for one reason to promote sales of EU based oil.

Yeah and to keep the dealer busy!

Now I like vdub and audi as much as the next guy but....really? That roach coach in Mexico isn't serving bratwurst and sauerkraut. Wait, are they?

Kendall GT1 Max, the name in oil industry. VW508 is 0W20 oil. That means Kendall is lying to you as a customer. That should be enough for you to think what that company thinks of you.
I would say, while I am not proponent of 0W20 oils in EUro applications, that VW kind of knows better then Kendall what goes in their engine. Or Kendall can send it for approval. It costs around $4,500 to get it from VW.

Does anyone know of a US source for the Total, LiquiMoly, and Mobil oil linked on the first page? I may pick some up and do some VOA to see what is in them.

Bingo! And that is why while in warranty, no matter what make of car, I stay within manufacturers specs. Outside of warranty, that's when I look at other options.

that conversation finally burned itself out and it gets brought right back up as soon as I ask a productive question...
