It is my understanding that VW 508 00 is dyed blue green. Is the Mobil 1 variant dyed green as well. Also after 5k miles I would imagine it comes out the same color as other oils. My Atlas is coming up on 5k miles and I want to do an oil change now and not wait till the required 10k interval.

You haven't done the first change already? at 5k it should be on its second or even third. I'm not letting break in metals sit in there for that long.

It has Zirconium as tracer. It shows in UOA.

If you're worried about having the correct dye/tracer, use a VW508.00 approved oil. Otherwise, use an oil which meets or exceeds VW508.00 specs.

I am only keeping it until 4yr/50k miles warranty expires. I don't like to abuse it even if I trade it. I wouldn't want that done to me if I was purchasing a used vehicle. Its a karma thing :)

I am going to use the Mobil 1 equivalent, curious if it also has the dye

Any oil with a dye in it will end up turning into the more typical color of oil after a very short period of time. I remember 15+ years ago when I ran Royal Purple a couple of times and saw that it didn’t even show up on the dipstick as being purple after just idling the engine for 30 seconds after the oil change 🤦‍♂️

This too. The only time my Tiguan had 508 00 was from the factory and it didn’t have a green tint after a thousand miles or less. For my free oil changes I asked the dealer to use 504 00 and it didn’t have a color, so they either used that or used their regular bulk oil :)

It is dyed green. I Have done three oil changes on my Macan using the Mobil 1.

Yep, the Mobil 1 508.00 0W-20 is dyed blue as per approval specs. Just did a wife's coworker's Tiguan and she insisted on the 0W-20 while it is still in the warranty period. Tried explaning the benefits of the ESP 0W-30, but I get it if she wanted to use the "proper" oil recommended. Her car, I'm just the mechanic who works for beer 😁.

I was running Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 in our 2019 Q5 since it was out of warranty and wanted a thicker oil. I still have 2 5 quart containers but am hesitant to use since it is under warranty and don't want any Issues if a oil related problem should arise. I traded the Audi unexpectantly and still have a supply of oil and filters. I should be able to use the filters at least

Run the 0W-30. Your Atlas will be happier for it.

Mix that with ESP 0W20.
Same additives package.

Yep, I dumped some Mobil 1 ESP X2 in my ‘23 Audi A4 last month. Definitely green/blue…and definitely golden after a week or so..
