Since I've noticed some members have repeatedly been searching for a dedicated list of Volkswagen
approved engine oils and some tried to help by uploading PDF sheets, which inevitably suffer from
getting outdated quite soon, I will post these links offcially provided by Volkswagen's "erWin" platform.
The very particular merit is, that these links, even though they remain the same, will always direct you
to the very LATEST list. Please remember these are global lists, you won't be able to obtain all of them
close to you.

in a somewhat numerical oder:

LATEST OFFICIAL VOLKSWAGEN 501 01 / 505 00 APPROVAL LIST:

Hope I finally happened to provide the most comprehensive collection of Volkswagen approved oil.
For obvious reasons some VW approvals are more relevant than others. That's why I choose to pass
on approvals intended for use in 3rd world coustries (VW 508 88/509 99). Most relevant are certainly
VW 502 00, VW 504 00, VW 508 00 and perhaps the most recent VW 511 00 may also be interesting.

.

On a side note, VW used to provide a VW 502 00 / 505 00 / 505 01 list in the past
and perhaps some more "triple-approval" lists, though these don't exist anymore.
For some time (two years or something like that) Volkswagen approvals are limited
to just two at a time.

I’m waiting for a “what’s the Best VW oil specification?” Thread

That's about opinions, which is legit, however this one is aimed to provide facts, that
might be helpful to some. That said, I'm quite certain such threads do already exist.
You perhaps even made a post in one of them..... 😇

Did anyone notice Redline isn't any longer on the VW 504 00 list?

What's the reason Lubrizol PV2547SA is on the list? To me it doesn't
seem to be a commercially available oil.

I'm surprised it was ever on the list.

I didn't think that they had any approvals.

PV2547sa is probably the designed lubrizol additive package to meet the latest 504.00/507.00 approval. Back in the day, it used to be LZ21303/21305a. It is the same with the bmw fluid approval system, they used to list the lubrizol and infineum additive package needed to meet the ll-04 approvals.

That's what I was guessing.

yes they do have 504 approval product.

Or they used to have apparently . . . .

. . . . even though RL still advertise:

Factory approved for API SN, BMW LL-04, Porsche C30, Mercedes Benz-Approval 229.51 and VW-Audi 507.00/504.00

Thanks so much for this info. Now, I know that VW 502 spec oil is roughly 10w-40. Better to be on the high side of HTHS than the low side.

Interestingly in the past VW 502 00 allowed for 0W-40, 10W-40
(plenty) and even 10W-60 too. I have a 2016 502 00 ELSA copy.
That said I'm glad you appreciate the topic.

Why does VW recommend Greater than 0w-20 or 0w-30 and greater weights? Is Cafe the entire difference, or, is there a difference in machining clearances.

They have another specification for lower viscosities - 508 00/509 00. 502 00 is intended for older design engines.
