Valvoline Restore & Protect

Just out of curiosity what exactly are you looking for before you’ll say it’s doing something?
He's been saying from the very beginning it doesn't work even though he had no reason to believe it wouldn't. He then tried to claim other oils all claim to do the same thing and I had to remind him about 100x that cleaning sludge and piston deposits are two different things. 1,082 post later he's still unconvinced. To each their own.

This type of attitude has existed since time immemorial.

My view was not based on nothing, but you've chosen to ignore experts from the industry that have posted in this very thread.

To each their own.

The only expert on this oil is the expert that helped design it. Dr. Warholic was a research scientist for 16 years at Infineum. So I'm going with him on this.

If it turns out it doesn't, I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

"I had never seen anything like it before, and I have eight years at Valvoline and 16 years at a company that makes the additives used in oil formulation.”

Breaking News: Valvoline says Valvoline is best oil.

Can you see any varnish or sludge inside the fill hole?

Yes, it got the hard black layer that won't scrape away. After four or so changes with various oils, its' pretty much the same. I never have to pop the hood in that car. The filter is a royal pain, a cartridge mounted down under with a drain fitting.

Since I still service my mom's 2011 Jetta SW with the same engine, I got the attachment hose thing, generic like $15. That car gets rare and unglamorous changes of Rotella and 2x 3x length filter duty, for the previously mentioned reasons.

Overall I'm glad I ordered the VRP but have a bunch of cars to maintain, and don't "feel it" like before. That is, I never spend extra on German oils or anything like that. thumbnail_1000005461.webp

I'm not even afraid to mix-to-taste viscosity of similar oils.

I wonder if the vrp will do the same for you as it did in my brother's car in servicing. It eventuality softened it enough for me to wipe off with my finger

I was curious also, If you use your WM app scanner on the barcode It rings up $6.47 for the ENTIRE box  🤪
I ordered a 5 Gallon Box through Valvoline with a subscription of every 6 months for $92. The 5-gallon box looks different than the one in your photo. I am guessing that they are making those boxes exclusively for Walmart Auto Center, but I could be wrong.

One thing I’m curious about is if Valvoline is going to use a small portion of this new chemistry for the rest of the oils they sell? From a marketing perspective that would be a great move for them. As it stands now a lot of people might consider switching back to their previous oil once they have done the 4 intervals with R&P. But if they had their other synthetic products saying “featuring the restore and protect technology” on the labels it could just entice people to stick with Valvoline long term. So far it’s definitely looking like they have a popular product right out of the gate but I’m sure they would like to gain more long term customers as well. (Of course a lot of people might just stick with R&P as their regular oil going forward too)

If R&P can eliminate deposits and keep rings as close to OE clean as possible, then they have a winner IMO. Expanding that chemistry into other grades would be ideal. I am curious too where this all ends up.......
