Update on the 2009 Nissan Versa with over 240k miles (oil changed at 240,831 and now 242275) that's gotten a steady diet of the cheapest quick lube stuff.

Oil level showed a loss of about 3/4 qt from full in about 1444 miles from oil change. Not sure if there's a leak or it's a burner. Probably both. I ended topping off with the half ish+ qt that was left and got it close to f marker.

I noticed the fill hole sludge/varnish was really flaky/bubbly. I've tried rubbing my finger on it before and it felt crusty and hard. Would come off before. Today, I was easily able to rub it off with my finger. Pictures are of before I did anything and after I rubbed it with my finger. There's still some that wouldn't come off. I'm positive the oil has worked on softening this stuff up over time.

The dip stick that was varnished seems to vet cleaner each time I check on my brother's car.

I think the it’s simply marketing claims have been put to rest.

I have a feeling many won't trust my observations, and that's fine
The observations and evidence you are presenting seem pretty great. And both are in alignment with VL’s claims. This product might be able to help a lot of people get more life out of old engines with just regular maintenance which is also great.

Wanted to do a quick update on the VR&P. I pulled the filter today from the Q7 with over 1300 miles on the VR&P, I replaced it and will run this first change to 3000 miles them change it to another run of 5W-30 VRP and do a 5000 miles run on that.

I cut the first filter apart after doing the B12 piston wash, the BG engine flush and that filter was loaded up with carbon. I cut the filter apart today and found the same load of carbon in it after running it for just 1300 miles. So the carbon is coming out nicely, but I suspect the biggest help was the B12 piston wash. Either way we have no oil consumed at 1300 miles yet after the vehicle drank a quart in just 400 miles after we purchase it. So it's all making a drastic difference in fixing the stuck oil rings on the pistons.

Keep in mind this filter below was run for only 400 miles, then had the B12 Piston Wash and BG EPR Flush. Loads of carbon!

Filter after a 1300 mile run with Valvoline Restore & Protect 5W-30. Lots of carbon.

I ordered one jug today for my wife's 5cyl Beetle with 165k. We got the car with the engine pretty crusty, but 5-speeds are kinda rare. I doesn't burn any oil, however the vacuum pump thing is a little wet.

I didn't realize that multiple changes are needed. Not a big deal, but I have a LOT of other oils to use up, so I'll probably just use this once and run it a "full" 6000 miles, following my general "1000 miles per quart of capacity" rule.

I guess it doesn't make a ton of sense to think that multiple changes are necessary, when we see things happening after several 100 miles.

How many miles on the Q7 at purchase time? Year ?

The way people are saying that this is working in just hundreds of miles, while Valvoline themselves states to run four changes at your standard interval, tells me that it's all in people's heads.

This oil is not like a flush. It's not that aggressive and intentionally works slowly, per Valvoline, to prevent overloading the filter.

Have any of you guys ever checked under your fill caps after a fresh change with any other oil before? Perhaps what you're seeing has always been happening with fresh oil but you never looked before.

Up 100% piston despots removal with 4 (*or more) uses and no tangible results prior to 4 uses are different expectations.

Sure there is likely some psychological aspect. People like to feel like their choices mattered and benefited them. That said, the big claim to fame is the ring deposits situation which certainly will take awhile. The superficial stuff like sludge, light varnish, non-caked on deposits, and what not, if could be cleaned by OCI w/ regular FS would not be there in the first place.

Apparently Restore and protect is available for "quick change" @ Walmart auto centers. Saw a 5 gallon box of R&P 5W-20 of it as I was walking out but didn't catch the price of the service

Anyone curious if RP will have any negative effect on oil pump driven belts? Not implying it will, just after all the reading I’ve been doing through the posts, the thought happened to enter my mind.

4 or more maybe is marketing but the product itself works

I'm sure there is a small % that is psychological, but the vast majority of anecdotal evidence so far suggests it works very well. This is through eye visuals of engine internals and reduced oil consumption.
We have not had a good look at internals. The oil baffle at the filler cap is not internals.
