hey all, i am excited to try valvoline restore and protect for my next oil change but was sad to find it only comes in 0w20, 5w20 and 5w30.

i undestand being around temps where the coldest is maybe 15f probably doesn't justify a 0w oil but i like the peace of mind having the best cold protection

i know asking valvoline is probably the best bet for this question but usually they just give generic replies so was wondering if anyone knows if a 0w30 is coming out soon?

if not, i guess 5w30 it is, or i can frankenbatch and make a 2.5w25

And so you thought, rather than getting info from the manufacturer, a bunch of web-based folks can hazard a total guess and give you an accurate answer? Perhaps you suspect someone here is a Bitog mole and works for Valvoline on their production or marketing teams? Even if someone here did work for them, would they risk their employment by giving out proprietary info just so you can satisfy your curiosity?

I'm not trying to be rude and pick on you, but ... seriously ... ???

my apologies i just assumed maybe someone had some info

Highly doubt 0w30 will be a weight that’ll be released in the near future at least. It seems like they’ve released weights that are most popular amongst many of the large car manufacturers in the US. I’d just go with 5w30 personally.

Why? R&P is not an oil to use on regular basis as staple oil, the flavors they have are sufficient.
I'm running one now in 5w-30 viscosity for the past 2500km and it's doing great job, just changed filter last night, cut it to see what's up, no carbon chunks but oil is very dirty and seems to be thicker that it should be. I'm gonna do oil and filter change sooner than planned.

Use the 5W30 and don't second guess it, it will be fine for the temperature you mentioned. Merry Christmas.
