Valvoline Restore & Protect

I’ve did an OCI with this on an oil burning Prius that saw HPL EC, HPL 5W-30 and VPBR. I’ll do a UOA at my next OCI. So far, all the voodoo oils I’ve used helped to get this engine from burning 1qt/1200-2000mi to 1qt/3000-4000mi. Let’s see if I can get to the upper end of the 3000-4000mi range with this for a year of oil changes.

Update on the 2009 Nissan Versa with over 240k miles (oil changed at 240,831 and now 242275) that's gotten a steady diet of the cheapest quick lube stuff.

Oil level showed a loss of about 3/4 qt from full in about 1444 miles from oil change. Not sure if there's a leak or it's a burner. Probably both. I ended topping off with the half ish+ qt that was left and got it close to f marker.

I noticed the fill hole sludge/varnish was really flaky/bubbly. I've tried rubbing my finger on it before and it felt crusty and hard. Would come off before. Today, I was easily able to rub it off with my finger. Pictures are of before I did anything and after I rubbed it with my finger. There's still some that wouldn't come off. I'm positive the oil has worked on softening this stuff up over time.

The dip stick that was varnished seems to vet cleaner each time I check on my brother's car.

Pretty impressed that it's even cleaning that top part which doesn't get too much oil. Thanks for the update..

This is why I always recommend 3k OCIs with these small sub-compacts. That DOHC engine was not well treated.
For years I didn't think I was ever in the "Severe" category of maintenance. I thought it was reserved for vehicles that tow, work in construction, operate in Arctic temperatures. Little did I know about short-tripping...most people have no idea.

Well, it was sold out at Walmart …

I picked some up yesterday at my local Wal-Mart, in NC. You have to look around, I also got some Havoline 10W-30, they showed four in stock but it wasn't even on the shelf. It was up top facing away from the aisle, in the overstock area, further down. Sometimes they get lazy and don't restock it on the shelves.

Valvoline tech confirmed that R&P exceeds dexos 1 gen 3 tests but being they already have 3 other certified oils they decided not to get it approved.

Also, mentioned that there is a lot of misconception out there about having to change your oil filter sooner than normal with this product. It was designed to clean slowly and dissolve the carbon. It's not an aggressive flush type of product. Should be used consistently overall 1-4 OCI to see benefit. No need to change filter sooner.
