Valvoline Restore & Protect

I sent an email to Valvoline asking when it was going to be available in Canada and that person said they didn’t know when that would happen 🫤

I don’t live too far from the border so I bought a jug of it from a Walmart in Niagara Falls NY
Yes, if I lived in Ontario, I would buy some 5 gallon gasoline cans in Walmart that fit in my trunk (perhaps 3 of those), and then would cross border to fill up the car's gas tank in US + fill up the the 3 additional 5 gallon jugs. You can bug a $1 funnel in Walmart that fits into gas tank hole and makes it easy to pour.

You could probably save $100 a month doing that.

Not really something I would ever do, especially if I’m in the Corvette since I would be smelling those gas fumes from the hatch area directly behind me 😵‍💫

That top row looks like a totally different piston design to the bottom row. Am I missing something?

Good spot! That does make me somewhat suspect. Isn't that the pics that they shared to prove that this oil worked? I understand there is likely a lot more proof out there, but was this the one used on their marketing YouTube video? And if so, why did they opt to use these pics?

Where exactly in Ontario, because I can leave my home, drive for 24 hours with a few small road stops, and still be in Ontario at the end of the day.

Accurate.

I love those "The American mind can't comprehend" memes that show you can go through 7 countries in the span of a few hours. You can fit Germany in Ontario 3x, the "oh, just build some cables to connect to wind power in Alberta" it's like, they simply don't understand the scale. The James Bay watershed in Quebec is 4x the size of Denmark and the reservoirs alone for the James Bay Project cover an area twice the size of Holland.

I find it funny that a dissected filter showing carbon crumbs or is collecting sludge gets accolades when certain products are used, then challenged when other products are used. Even when the filter is a one off, and no others from the vehicle are shown to compare it to. No brands or products in particular, just an observation that dates back here a very long time.
Exactly, when certain products are used and dump all sort of junk in the filter it is like Moses just parted the red sea, if it is any other product and does it it is like Dr evil just dumped a sketchy product on consumers.

Personal observation.
2020 RAV4 Hybrid 84K miles before I started my first OCI on Valvoline Restore and Protect. The oil was very dark on the dipstick by the 4K mark so I changed it out. I’m now 4K miles into my second OCI with Valvoline Restore and Protect and the oil is still very light amber, only slightly darker than when it was new.

My unscientific assessment is that this new oil seemingly scrubbed some crap out of the engine that my previous oils missed. Overall I’m happy with this experiment.

Short trips, low miles over long duration, will create fuel dilution no matter what oil is used (<5K/6 months) even on a new car with fresh clean rings.
Yes it will occur no matter what viscosity is used, but having stuck rings can certainly increase the rate of fuel dilution because there is more ring blow-by when the rings are stuck and not sealing like they should be when 100% free.

My comment was in response to the theory that thicker oil might make the oil warm-up faster and run hotter, thereby helping reduce fuel dilution. I said it wouldn't matter what oil viscosity was used, and that thicker oil would not help fuel dilution because any difference in oil temp due to higher viscosity is only a few degrees.

Canada is big, big, big, but isn't it also more or less empty? I think I read that something like >90% of the population of Canada resides within 100 miles of the southern border and the majority of the rest live in the Maritimes? (That's 160 kilometers for the wicked. ;))

BITOG....a strange corner of the interwebz....
Im fine with that, there is no fun being normal. Theres Facebook and Reddit for the normie crowd. BiTOG gets its own unique share of success and horror stories but also the occasional entertainment when a simple question turns into a 40 page debate amongst BiTOGers.

See that old dude with that fast beater at the track? Under the hood is a clean valve train. 500,000 miles, how does he do it? Must be a thickie type of guy. Those types really hate the EPA and their CAFE. He sure knows something we dont.

BITOG must be extra weird if Redit counts as normie, LOL.

This post is gold, absolute gold; I couldn’t have said it better myself!
