Valvoline Restore & Protect

Essentially what happened was they were in the process of developing/testing oil and they stumbled upon a unique synergy that showed exceptional cleaning. This was only discovered due to hands on engine testing which they're able to do internally because they can run all the engine tests without outsourcing. They take a typical GF-6 rated oil and run it through the IIIH test which subjects the oil to 304F for 90 hours. They then put the pistons/engine back together and run Restore & Protect and it cleans the piston rings back to OE levels of cleanliness.

Per the LSJ video: 4,000 mile OCI before and after.

Nope. Not good enough. All marketing claims until VL personnel come to my house, run tests on my engine, and then tear it down right in front of my eyes to prove it works. Just empty promises otherwise.

I don't understand people who argue these facts? If you don't believe it, then why do they believe HPL/AMSOIL/ ETC.? Or why believe the other certifications but not the Valvoline ran tests in the ILSAC GF6A certs?
It has to do how the product was launched that invited harsh criticism. AI generated reviews, fake reviewers. If they took a more tame approach to market then I believe it would have been more accepted here.

This past weekend I saw a new TV ad on R&P. It was a nice ad. To me it shows they think they have something special here and are promoting it big time. Why would they put this much effort behind lies. Valvoline has always been a stand up company.

I think Valvoline definitely made up for any suspect marketing after the LSJ video. They pretty much explained everything they could without actually giving anyone the secret sauce.

There's a difference between healthy skepticism and summarily and categorically dismissing all claims made by everyone in an authority position that can not be immediately verified. Has the government lied? Yes! Does the government lie about everything? No. Do doctors make mistakes and miss diagnoses? Yes! Do doctors miss all diagnoses? No. Do scientists get it wrong and/or lie? Yes! Do all scientists do this? No.

Each and every case has to be evaluated independently based on its own merits - who is saying it, what they are saying, and what information is available to corroborate or discredit what they are saying. We don't do this anymore as a society and instead we say because government, doctors, or scientists could be or have lied or they have been wrong, we should automatically discredit everything they say, even if what they say is plausible and there is no evidence to support they are wrong. It's another form of apathy - it's easier to just discredit all claims instead of doing the hard work of actually considered individual ideas and evidence. We've gone well past healthy skepticism to automatic disbelief of even everyday plausible claims.

In this case, could Valvoline be lying? Sure. Is there any evidence or history of Valvoline lying? Not to my knowledge. Does this mean I'm 100% certain they are telling 100% truth? Of course not, and if someone presents credible evidence to suggest otherwise, I'll consider that evidence, but many here have just defaulted to Valvoline must be lying, and that's not a sensible conclusion based on what we know.

People have become intellectually lazy and instead rely on their confirmation biases.

I am biased, Anything that has a potential to clean or keep things spotless, I am a fan of.

My list of favorites (no particluar oder): M1(0w-40 and HM products that specifically state cleaning), HPL products , Rislone Engine treatment, BG EPR and Dynamic Engine cleaner, Have not tried liquimoly flush but is on my try list, Now Valvoline Restore and Protect(VRP) is on my watch list as well.

No, it was treated pretty harshly on here at first too (and people still balk at the price). When Dave came on the board and was insanely open and transparent, things turned around for them; people started warming up to them. Then they had the Open House, which helped again.

HPL has put a LOT of effort into getting to where they are with the membership, it wasn't handed to them.

It helps being a site sponsor too..... And the heavy handed mods who close threads for no reason.

Personally, Im excited to try this oil. Im getting some Pennzoil for the rebate this weekend and may try some Valvoline in a sludgy Mazda 3 I maintain.
