Just got home from a 3k+ trip with the Pilot. Poured in a bottle of Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner after filling up at a Phillips 66 with their premium about 500 miles from home. This is the second bottle I've used. First was a couple of tanks before the last OCI. Can't say I've noticed any difference, but I've been trying to use Shell premium whenever available. Used Phillips 66 premium twice and BP premium twice (Top Tier+ sticker on pumps) on this trip.

I hope I'm not too late to get in on the VRP FSC BOGO action at Autozone, but I'm going to find out this morning. If not, I still have three bottles on my shelf.

Interesting. I became aroused when I drove my Jeep after using VRP. Limp as a wet noodle after Redline, though.
How profound. I drive two basic cars with no HP, no turbo, no intake build up, have run M1 EP 5W30 and Redline for 200kmiles 7-8 years combined. PEA will increase any car neglected fuel system every oil change place two bottles inside and fuel up. Techron, Gumout,, maybe Royal Purple, BG 44k and of course RED LINE top dog. Two bottles of that each oil change, top tier gas creep up my acceleration, comfort, and power.

Happy to report I wasn't too late. Based on a poster in the front window of my local Autozone, the BOGO promotion is good through 7/27!

This store has 12 bottles in stock and I bought them all. Will share the wealth with my kids. The manager said "good thing I have more on order". Apparently, it's been a good promotion for them. They didn't have any on the shelves near other fuel system cleaners, but when I asked if they had any in stock, he had 8 bottles in the back and another 4 on an end cap display close to the oil filters.

Went to my local Autozone and saw only three bottles on the shelf. I wanted to buy two and get two free so I took the three up to the counter and asked if they had anymore in the back. Luckily they did. He said they are selling a lot of them. Valvoline really hit a home run with the Restore & Protect product line.

If you're a consistent user of TT fuels, I don't imagine you'd "feel" much if anything, no? I'm not saying that it's not doing anything, the Valvoline FSC, or that it doesn't have any value. Only that whatever cleaning a pour in treatment does when you've been consistently using TT fuels, is going to be on the margins because you already have or should have a relatively "clean" fuel system to begin with. And those gains in cleanliness/performance should be hard, if not impossible, to quantify at the steering wheel.

In fact I'd be surprised to see you report legit performance gains, if you've been loyal to TT fuels. Because my understanding is that consistent use of TT branded fuels should be keeping performance robbing deposits to a minimum. Otherwise why use it, no?

My experience with the use of certain Top Tier gasoline has not given me the confidence that using TT fuels alone prevents carbon buildup. For a period of time, I switched from using Shell premium to Quik Trip 87 octane, which is TT certified. I started having quite a bit of carbon deposits in my oil filters. Switching back to Shell premium, I no longer see these carbon deposits.

The Pilot's J35Y8 engine has quite a history of intake valve fouling for some, so if using a bottle of Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner once (or maybe twice going forward with extended OCIs) helps prevent carbon buildup, it's an investment I'm willing to make.

I just bought 4. They had 5 on the shelf and I didn't want to ask if they had anymore. Maybe I'll go back in a few weeks and check again or check a different store.

Fair point. But are you sure that's not a car problem, rather than a QT TT fuel problem as you suggest it is? I mean if you require the highest detergency out there just to keep ivd's to a min, for which Shell is known for having, does that say more about the cars internals or the QT TT gas you were using?

As I stated, Honda's J35Y8 engines are prone to carbon fouling with reports of related fault codes being thrown as early as 20k miles requiring intake valve cleaning. No doubt the design of the engine is the major contributing factor, but my experience with Quik Trip, TT certified, 87 octane has shown me that just because a fuel is TT certified, doesn't mean it's the best you can buy. My switch back to Shell premium was my attempt to mitigate as much carbon deposits as possible. Based on the last oil filter inspection, I'm satisfied my approach is working for me in our Pilot based on how we drive.
