doing some insulation before the winter. Have used the dow great stuff polyurethane foam, but found a can of dap tex spray foam insulation, so wanted to try it.

Applied it in a few places, seems to go on better, expands less, and is easier to control and work than the great stuff... Plus it cleans up with soap and water. It makes less mess, and the mess is easier to deal with.

Any potential issues or problems with latex foams vs. polyurethane ones? pros? cons?

Thanks,

JMH

Are you doing this around windows & door or at cove ceiling where spacing is minimal? Are you applying the dap tex over the dow? What's the price comparison?

just around the holes in the ceiling where my fans and lights are. the boxes have big gaps between their edges and the plaster/sheetrock. It is a major draft area...

The only issue with the latex foam is that it is not waterproof so don't use it where it will get wet. Also it is not as strong as the polyurethane foam.

You don't want to use it where it may come in contact with water is all. But otherwise, I agree with you and that I like it much better. Especially for the cleanup. But IIRC, you can use partial cans because cleaning the straw tube is easily done in the sink.
