Hey all, went to get an oil change on my 2015 Rav 4 with the 2arfe

I believe it calls for around 4.6 quart ish

The shop I went to used a whole 5q bottle as I could see him pour it in. When it was too late I asked him and he said it’s fine these engines don’t care about oil level

Any ideas if this is too overfilled? Should I pull over somewhere else and ask them to remove some?

Thanks

Seems like atleast an inch above the full line on dipstick
I have the same engine and I always fill with the full 5 quarts. I've been doing this over more than two years and quite a few changes. However, I know that my sump is properly drained and the amount over the top line on the dipstick is always about 1/4 inch. Maybe I'll measure it when I get out to the car later. For sure, it's not anywhere close to an inch over the line.

Did you check the dipstick?

That's a little high and is indicative that the oil wasn't allowed to drain long enough. I have found that recent Toyota sump capacities are a bit on the high side; if you change the oil on a lift or on level ground, you usually need to add a bit less than spec.....unless you allow the car to drain for hours.

As I understand it, overfullness has to do with keeping the crankshaft oil of the pool of oil. To know this you would have to have a measurement of reference. For .5 qts to matter, it would have to make the level rise such that the crank would be submerged.....And I find that to be unlikely.

This may shed some light on this discussion, or give you something to think about ... maybe ...

Ive been dumping the entire 5 quarts into my Rav4h for the last 70,000 miles. 🙃

I know Im just 1 guy on the internet but.
2 guys… same

Thread sake, let’s see if I am 600 ML over. Is that still fine because I think this vehicle calls for 4.5-ish and they use the whole 5 . However let’s just assume that the vehicle was not fully drained since it’s a quick lube

What do you mean by "recent," what model years? The OP's car is about 10 years old and mine is about 13 years old.
