Hey all, just wanted to provide update

I got a 15 Toyota 2.5L which asks for 0w20

For last 3 oil changes I ran the following

M1 0w30 AFE

PUP 5w30

Castrol Edge 5w30

M1 afe was the loudest out of the bunch, I switched to it directly from a 0w20 and the M1 afe still had the startup vvt rattle and didn’t sound improved over the 0w20

I then ran PUP 5w30 which was soo quiet, rattle dissapeared on startup and I thought I found my new fav oil

I then recently got edge 5w30 put in and it as well is quiet on start up

Purrs like a kitten

Will update again in near future but seems like pup and edge perform similar or the same on a sound test!

Does this have a cartridge or spin-on filter?

Typical noise on the Mobil 1, I too used it in one vehicle and it was noticeably a bit clattery then , went to Royal Purple in the same grade (5w-30) noise gone,,,then later used Havoline ,still quiet, next change back ti Mobil 1 5w-30 noise came back,,,hmm this ended my use or even recommending Mobil 1 engine oil.

Maybe you need to replace your failed cam gears. I don’t see how different oil formulations of roughly the same viscosity, will make any meaningful impact.

Cartridge

Ran same brand same model filter each time

Fram endurance 9972
Thanks, was trying to determine whether the ADBV may have played a role. I've never had M1 produce any more discernible oil than any other oil I've used, about the only thing I've ever seen an oil change was the smoothness of the MDS transitions on my 6.4L with the HPL 0W-40.

You Might have to Give Valvoline a try especially with the increased Moly

Its partially viscosity, but also how well or how much of an oil sticks or clings to the inside of the engine, and onto the parts after it sits overnight. That could keep valve train stuff quieter until oil is pumped up there.
I don't know what the term or measurement is for oil clingingness, but I imagine there's some variations with identical viscosity oils.

I think that’s spot on but oil experts seem to not believe in that on this forum.

I think more metal contact equals more chatter

Less contact means less chatter

2ar-fe specs everything from 0w-20 to 20w-50 in the chart outside of the US. The successor the a25a-fks runs 0w-16 to 15w-40 in the owners manual. So have no fear using something thicker. Don't think 20w-50 is necessary but a euro 30 or 40 grade will work wonderfully. You could try pp euro L 5w-30. Ran super quiet in my daughters cars.

you ought to look up the UAE or Asia manual for your model car or engine, and see the oil viscocity they spec....you might be surprised
