Toyota 2.5L 2Ar-fe overfilled by 0.5q

Hey all, went to get an oil change on my 2015 Rav 4 with the 2arfe

I believe it calls for around 4.6 quart ish

The shop I went to used a whole 5q bottle as I could see him pour it in. When it was too late I asked him and he said it’s fine these engines don’t care about oil level

Any ideas if this is too overfilled? Should I pull over somewhere else and ask them to remove some?

I doubt it will do any harm to be 12.8 ounce over full. But I have heard a few old mechanics say they would rather be a quart low than a quart over full.

How far above full does it show on the dipstick?

Slightly overfilled like that won’t hurt a thing.

As soon as you start the car, there is probably 1 less quart in your sump, or maybe half a quart, you are fine.

My 2013 Camry with the 2AR also calls for 4.6 quarts per the owner's manual. With a new filter and a 5 quart jug it puts it right at the full line on the dipstick. I'd say you're just fine.
And yes, that is after letting the engine run to circulate the oil.

Check the oil level using the dipstick. No reason to guess or speculate.

.5qt would not put it an inch above full, UNLESS the tech didn't drain all of the old oil. Which is a common practice at Quick Lube places.

If it is overfilled, I would personally drain oil out of the filter housing, start the engine, and then check again. Repeat until at the correct level.
I assume it has a filter housing and not a screw-on filter?

You can purchase one of these pumps for less than $10, stick the hose down the dipstick tube and pump the excess oil out. Check the fluid level as you go so you don't remove too much. Should take about a minute.

That's preferable lol, I throw the whole 5qt jug in. A 0.4qt overfill doesn't hurt a thing and you get a bit of free oil. I'd be happy.

I tend to agree with this with maybe some exceptions. Unfortunately, I'd bet the OP is more than half a quart overfilled here.
