Thoughts on Super Tech?

Just checked Mag 1 again and still no 20k. And the Mag 1, unlike ST, is listed as MS6395 compliant. Are we sure Warren Distribution makes Advanced ST, or could it be another supplier?

I'd say that in general it is somewhat inferior as it does not have some of the approvals, licenses or specifications that other oils have. Beyond that, it is also true that Walmart negotiates a low price from the supplier.
As per attached Supertech Full Synthetic 10K meets requirements of API SP, Chrysler MS-6395 and Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 and is Dexos1 Gen2 Approved. Can't ask for much more than that at 5w-30 for domestics without jumping into European manufacturer approvals.

Supertech European Meets Porsche A40, BMW LL-01, MB 229.5, and a few VW specs, so its not like Warren can't make a good oil

Yes I was thinking more along the lines of Porsche A40 or Mercedes-Benz 229.5. Or VW 504 00 which is not available here in the US.

And besides, the Supertech product you mention does not actually have those approvals.

I don't think Ford and Chrysler's specs require approvals like D1G2

SOPUS states Pennzoil Platinum and QSFS "meets or exceed" those specs and XOM states M1 Vanilla is "recommended for" those same specs.

Right, it's being confused in this thread a bit. dexos isn't an approval either, it is a license. Meets and exceeds is appropriate language for a specification.

But the European ones are approvals of course and the Walmart product does not have those.

But not the 20k. I just saw a bottle yesterday. So maybe Warren Distribution isn't the supplier?

As one oil company stated there is meets expectations then there's exceed expectations.
You can "exceed" something by a single "unit", whatever those units may be. Without actual context, it means very little.

When it comes to an oil spec, what are the values they have to meet anyway ? Certain chemical components, temperatures, flow/viscosity ?

Warren doesn't list Ford or Chrysler approvals on their labels, but lists them on the product sheets. There should be a product sheet somewhere on the site for 20k that will list the approvals

We're really getting into the minutiae on verbiage when D1G2 is more stringent than Ford 96x or Chrysler's requirements anyway lol. I

I'm content with the "meets requirements" but if you're a "meets or exceeds" person, cheers to you.

I'd love to see that product sheet. But I can't find a 20k mile oil on their site. I'll keep looking, but please link it up if you see it. Thanks!

And good point on the D1 G2 cert.

By their little star chart, regular ST full syn is half as good as the advanced version in reducing engine wear/extending engine life and combatting sludge and deposits.

If I can find it on here, I'll link it over or I'll call Warren to get a copy of it.

I have run the ST full syn 5-30 in my Focus track car... for 3 years now. 12 events a year, 4 hours at 4-7000 rpm, 250* oil temps.
65-105* ambient temps. No issues. Pretty extreme/severe use. I really should do a UOA just for reference. (I like having a cheap track car that is as fast as cars 20x times the $$$ of what have in mine)

I might as well throw my $.02 in. Here is a copy and paste from what I said back a few months ago from a different thread that was ST vs. everyone else too:
~
Here is perhaps a slightly different take on this.
I live in a small town with a small, locally owned Napa store. Napa has some pretty good deals on oil through the end of August; Napa and Castrol. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to spend maybe a couple extra bucks and support them versus giving my money to the giant WM.
I am not critical of those that do. I've bought a lot of oil from Wal-Mart over the years. But with the deals at Napa right now, I'm going to stock up and add to my stash a bit before the end of the month.
