Hey guys,

The wife's '08 Saturn Aura just turned 40k on the clock and it was time for an oil change. Up until this point she was bringing it to the dealer for the normal maintenance schedule and oil changes. It has seen only conventional oil up to now...so I finally made the switch to synthetic. I have searched on here and haven't found many threads on the M1 0w30; so I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were about this particular choice.

She drives ALOT of city miles carting around the two kids she nanny's for during the week. If I had to break it down it is 60 city and 40 highway driving. She has had her car for just under two years and put on 40k miles. With the dino oil she was doing 5k OCI's per the dealer recommendation. With the M1 I am hoping to get around 7500 miles. I am using the OE ac delco filter along with the oil. Thanks for your input guys...

sidenote: since we are on the topic of GM engines...would this also be a good choice for my dad's '04 Suburban Z71 with the 5.3L vortec v8 that just turned 100k miles?

YES my friend!

But having said that, you will barely see any significant difference in the fuel economy unless you live in a place where temperatures frequently go below -15C.

I recommend that you use for both of your cars M1 5w30 or M1 EP 5w30 if you find that on sale, strangely enough M1 5w30 has a lower pour point than AFE 0W-30!

i used it in my 2.2 ecotec and i didnt really see a mpg difference but engine only had 3k on it when i put it in...i think it is great oil

i think it will be good esp in city driving..why not go with the best, cars are a big investment...the oil and cartridge filter are only like 30$ combined

This matters only in a trivia sort of way. (As I recall M1 10W30 has a lower pour point than 5W30 again?). What does matter more is that M1 0W30 has a lower visc. at 40C than 5W30. Having said this 0/5w30 would be just fine.

Thanks for the replies! I am not going for better mpg with this oil, I just wanted a "high quality" full synthetic in the 0w30 range. I guess we really wont know how it does until the 2nd change which will be sometime in mid summer. I am assuming it will be doing some type of cleaning since it had conventional for almost 40k miles? Thanks again guys

rdeano9,

I don't know what the weather is in Minnesota but have you considered asking your locak Chevy dealership if they have a synthetic oil option available like my local Chevy one offers.

That's what I did when my first oil change occured on my 08' Chevy Impala SS. They use Mobil 1 so I went for it. It does appear though that other dealerships use different oil. My brothers Cadillac dealership uses Castrol "Syntec" instead of the FF Mobil 1.

Good luck,

Durango

The 0/30 will serve you well, well built oil and can be used year around.

i use it year around run it out 7-9,000 miles, great oil,try a search on it been talked about lots

i have a 2000 sunfire 2200 I4 i was going to try 0w20 AFE on the next interval

Well I am happy with my choice, and hopefully it can run for many more problem free miles. Just driving it the last couple of days I have noticed the engine has quieted down on startup and it does idle very smooth.

It did the same thing for the suv of mine. It also cleans extremely well. It's a very underrated oil here on bitog for some reason. Hopefully as more and more of us use it and post UOA's others will get to see just how good it is. ;P

That can be arranged.
