The New Fram Ultra......

I ordered some Ultra’s from Amazon with old photo thinking I was getting the metal screen backing…..nope. They are the new improved version. I’ll use them for 20k and sleep well.

This is how I feel regarding my purchase. I am hopeful they will have the screen, but if they don't, I still have an awesome filter. I am not going to push them to 20k. My Ford manual says I can do 10k OCI's in my E350 with the new Godzilla V8 Gasser, but I am not going to push it, opting to dump and change the oil at 7,500 mile OCI's. I will use the filters for two changes or 15k miles.

One question I have... When you run two OCI's on a filter, does anyone spin them off, pour out the old oil and spin them back on, for the second OCI?

..............

I'm seeing a huge amount of acquisitions, and I truly fear that American industry is NOT READY for this century! Having the same parent company for every American made oil filter cannot be good.
There is very little future in oil filtration. Electric is coming and imagine the "consolidation" the oil filter market if it's only market was commercial/Industry?

I can see Champion Labs being absorbed by Fram. Champ Labs has no brand recognition, and Fram does(Walmart, advertisements) Right now the acquisitions are purely patent based. Close Champ and Spin off Fram into it's own company. The volume of oil filters needing to be produced will steadily decline with more electrics on the road.
Champion Labs and Fram are owned by the same company-First Brands (formerly Trico), and there are already filters with the Fram name on the outside, and Champion construction on the inside. This likely a response to Mann & Hummel buying everything in sight (Wix, Purolator, etc.).

No don't spin them off and dump.
If you are doing that just install a new filter.

I got an email from Fram where they stated the changes on the oil filters will be happening over the next 6 to 8 months, probably time to hit:

Walmart
Ebay
Amazon

I ordered the old version from e.bay couple days ago and they arrived in the new boxes that have the 'Durable metal screen' print omitted so I've requested a refund.

AMSOIL filters have been made by a variety of companies, depending on the can. I believe at one point it was Hastings, Wix and Champion, varying by part number. The media was supplied by Donaldson. Donaldson may also have made a few of the part #'s, I can't remember exactly, but I do recall there was some diversity in the supply chain.
thank you for this info it is greatly appreciated

Was Fram ultra the only filter to use metal backing? Maybe there is a reason no one else is using metal backing, are they able to fit more media now that metal is gone?

I’ve always been using mobil1 filters that I got on amazon for $10. I was thinking of switching to fram ultra for $9, but I am no longer sure since they removed filter backing. I also do not want to spend more than $10 on an oil filter. What should I do?

Use a standard oil filter & change it every OCI. Super Tech & Fram Extra Guard orange ones are both pretty good.

This. Champ Labs was acquired by First Brands after FB(Trico) acquired Fram. I don't see Champ being spun off now to another company. FB also acquired Brake Parts Inc./Raybestos at the same time.

As for Amsoil synthetic filter manufacturer, 'most recently' those posted here and seen on other forums have been made by Champ Labs. With the exception of adbv color, element construction is very similar to if not identical the Royal Purple filter. Could that change or might several applications be different, possible. But what I've seen most recently is Champ Labs.

Yes, I think the majority of the cans we are likely to see were produced (and are still produced) by Champ, due to the size of their catalog for passenger car filters (existing canisters). I was surprised to find out, back when I did, that there were in fact several manufacturers, depending on the part #, that assembled the cans with the Donaldson media per AMSOIL's requirements.

Looks like Revised design is a better filter. Use with confidence.

'Happy talk' at this point....I'll move slowly with a open mind, I do believe they wouldn't go through all this without also making them more profitable funny they don't mention that.

Any company that isnt trying to be more profitable wont be around for long, especially in the current business climate. The key is to increase profits without sacrificing quality and alienating loyal consumers.
I am just a random, unknown internet person, this observation is worth exactly how much it cost you ;)
