The Flex is polarizing. Some people really hate it, but on the other hand some people really love it.

From a design standpoint, Hyundai has nothing that compares to it. Not even the hyper-derivative, super-anonymous Genesis sedan.

The Hyundai may be more appealing to you, but you won't find many auto designers that share your opinion.

Read what I said again. I said in many cases have surpassed the Japanese, not in ALL cases.

I defended your opinion of the Impala if you recall. I think it's [censored] as well.

Hyundai isn't into designing fridges... They design vehicles that sell well and are economy driven!

Plus, its a modern artistic interpretation of one of the stylish and sought after vehicles of all time!

As for the Ford Flex above... ***? That thing is even uglier now looks like the old Chryslers from the 80's!

Seriously, Stevie... ****. Your posts are painful to read, but it makes sense considering you are like 20 years old or something. You come across as an annoying shill for Hyundai and I can barely stand to read any more of this thread.

The Genesis, while a good value, will never appeal to anyone who has any sense of self-respect. It's like wearing a Dockers suit. Yeah it looks all shiny on the surface and probably is nearly as good as the higher-priced competition, but anyone who is seriously considering a luxury sedan and has the means to buy a Lexus or Mercedes or Audi or even a Caddy will pass over the Hyundai for the simple reason it is a Hyundai. There might not be anything wrong with the car, but image means a lot. Doesn't make any sense, but it does. It's just that not many people who are willing to drop 40K on a car will be willing to buy a Hyundai when they could get a Lexus or Audi for the same coin (or at least a CPO luxury car). Even a CPO luxury car would be better in the company parking lot than a gussied-up Hyundai. You are treated differently when you drive a proven luxury car... and snickered at behind your back when you pull up with a Hyundai clone - as if you don't know any better.

Maybe someday things will change and public opinion will sway. But in my profession, I meet the richest professionals in town every day, and they do not drive Hyundais and wouldn't drive a Genesis. Even if a car sucks, they would rather spend the money and show they have the nameplate than get something sensible (as I am sure the Genesis is).

They should have started a new company and introduced the car that way. Then it might get some respect.

Andy

I'm sure they won't win over the high end crowd but there are people who want a nice car and don't mind driving around in a Hyundai for the lower price. Not everyone is a name brand whore. I personally think the Genesis is not intended to be sold as widely as say the Sonata.

Oh, and no need to be rude.

Yea, that's pretty [censored] sorry.

But I dig a stock one...

I like the interior, but the outside I just can't get over... Looks like it's going to turn into Optimist-prime from Transformers!

Cause if the Flex turned into Optimus Prime, I'd be taking out a loan right now.

It would take Sync to a whole new level.

I would sell my Santa Fe and buy it even though I think it's ugly because I'm a huge Transformers fan!

Doh! retrojunk apparently doesn't like people linking directly to their pictures... FWIW, the first picture was the wood trim package Flex, and the second picture was of an 84 Dodge Caravan with the wood trim package. PIMPIN!

(its not my style, but I understand the stock ones look nice to a lot of people)

Yeah.

This is what my first car looked like... Had a 2.6 Litre Mitsubishi 4 Cylinder engine and carbeurator. Was gutless but took me around as a kid, then as a teenager. Was a good car. (400,000KM)

Mine was a brighter yellow-beige and had gold trim at the bottom of the doors... Was a real looker... For the eighties!

You have an 82 Delorean and you think the Hyundai Genesis doesn't deserve respect?

Well, I was going to stay out of this one, but what the [censored].

Tiny little ben driving a ten year old Mustang and all upset over a Korean car that just might have something to offer over ALMOST ALL big-3 cars? Which is why their idiot CEOs decided (what with all the common sense and greed of the UAW) to fly on their corporate iron to D.C. (departing from the same airport at the same time for the same destination. "Gee, why have the Asians been kicking our asses?") and beg like street whores for a few shillings to get them through 2009.

And seriously, Andy, or 82...., or whomever: "the richest professionals in town.......? What, sheep farmers are now driving Mercedes and Lexus autos around Fargo?

You chastise Steve for being a "20-year old shill for Hyundai," yet what does the statement "there might not be anything wrong with the car, but image means a lot..." say about you and the arrogance in Fargo?

"Yeah it looks all shiny on the surface and probably is nearly as good as the higher-priced competition." At least you admit the car is worth every dime they sticker it for, unlike the quality lacking Benz and the over-priced Toyotas (Lexus) you worship.

I believe Steve's original post was simply trying to say, "...for the dollar asked, there is a lot of strong value and solid quality as opposed to Hyundai's offerings in the past."

But, it obviously would kill you and ben to admit a Korean car (finally) is solid competition to those "status symbols" you both need as an adjunct to your Prozac.
