After looking at every dealer in 5 different states my wife gave up on the Royal Blue Pearl Accord. The only other color she would consider was white, unfortunately, white is only available with tan interior and neither of us like it.

At that point she was so fed up with the lack of cars available through Honda, she decided she wanted her second choice...a Camry. Ok,finding a blue Camry should be easy enough being that its the number one selling car in America. Wouldn't you know it,not a single Blue Ribbon Pearl Camry with leather available.

Looking through the lot,a white Camry SE with black leather catches her eye. We drive it,she decides it'll work,we start talking money with the sales manager. We settle on numbers that work for both of us,and its a done deal right?... Hardly.

Turns out that car was sold before we got there and they hadn't taken it off the lot yet. We were negotiating on a car that wasn't even available for purchase. After a few choice words for the sales manager we drove back home.

Got up this morning, bought a sunday paper, was having a cup of coffee, and looking through the car ads. The local dealer had the Camry hybrid we drove a couple weeks back as a loss leader.

The had it reduced $5000+ under MSRP. My wife saw that and she wanted to be there when they opened in hopes the car hadn't sold since the ad was printed. Sure enough it was right up by the front door of the dealership and was available.

We took it out for another long test drive to be sure she REALLY liked it. Came back to the dealership, worked out some numbers for our trade (my Wrangler)and drove away in a 2011 Spruce Mica (Forest Green) Camry Hybrid with virtually every option available on a Camry.

I had worked out some numbers on a hybrid a couple weeks back. Her driving habits and usage are PERFECT for getting the most out of a hybrid.

Buying a car is supposed to be fun. I've got to tell you, this experience SUCKED!

It all worked out in the end though. My wife loves the car she ended up with and thats all that matters.

Glad it finally worked out. It's a little strange that Green was OK but only blue would be acceptable for the Accord. I remember reading the first thread on the Accord ordeal. I don't think too much of the current Accord and think the Camry is probably better. If all you want is a 4-door midsize sedan, I don't really see any compelling reason to not buy a Malibu, fusion or Altima if Honda doesn't have want you want. But it sounds like the Camry hybrid suits the intended use best.

Stewart Fan,

Why didn't you just order a blue Accord? That's what I did with my Fusion because I wanted a manual trans and I got it optioned exactly the way I wanted it. My local Ford dealer was great to work with and whole process was smooth and stress free.

One thing you can expect when you walk into a showroom is to be lied to. Expect nothing less. They are there to sell cars and will tell you anything to do it. Is every dealer this way? No. But 99% are. It's in their genes.

Glad it works out for you. A few years ago wife wanted a ext / int color combination that doesn't exist and we were forced to custom order and wait a few months. Woman can be difficult at time, but in the end she has to like the car that she's driving too, so oh well.

It is so weird but we just did the deal today on a 2011 Civic Hybrid and we traded in the 2010 Pearl blue Accord we had to get it! We got a good deal and every dollar gas goes up we make out even more. I have to say it is kind of interesting how that car works if you have never been in a hybrid. there is no sound (hardly) when you turn it on.

The Accord feels a lot more spacious to this 6'7" person. I recently dated someone with a 2009 Camry hybrid and my dad has a 2010 Accord. I know which one I'd rather drive or ride in.

Congratulations on your new Camry. I'm you'll grow to enjoy it as much as she does already. I love the Spruce Green Mica color. That metallic is so deep, isn't it? It almost looks like you can dip your hand right into the paint.

At least you're finished and can enjoy the new car.

I'm glad my wife isn't picky. I'd have lost all my hair if I had to deal with these kind of responses.

The problem with the Accords is the boring selection of colors available in the sedan. There just isn't anything that really stands out. The selection of colors for the 2011 Accord look like they were chosen by an 80 year old woman.

The Royal Blue is about the only one with any personality.

The same thing applies to the Camry.

The Malibu we drove had a funky gauge cluster that neither of us liked. Her sister has a Fusion, and them being twins, she wasn't going to buy the same car her sister has. The seats in the Altima were just flat out uncomfortable.

Oh well, she is a woman and I know better than to question her.

I'm not a fan of green cars, but I will admit the Spruce Mica looks great in person.

The crazy thing is,she is usually the least picky person I know. When we bought her Tahoe in '07,she said she wanted a full sized SUV,and the only color she didn't want was maroon/burgundy.

Told me to go pick one out and let her know when she needed to come sign the papers.

We got two years or 25,000 miles of free maintanance with Toyotas current promotion.

I'd guess that means it'll be Toyotas 0w-20.

After that I'm not sure.

The Hybrid still uses the older 2.4L 2AZ-FE engine, but I'm sure they have moved that to 0W-20 by now. The newer 2.5L 2AR-FE engine in the conventional models does use 0W-20.

I wonder if they'll switch the Hybrid models to the 2AR-FE for the 2012 refresh, if they do at all.

Yep.

0w-20 is recommended,5w-20 is suitable.

This may go without saying, but I'd make sure they use the 0W-20. If they have a choice, the bulk 5W-20 is likely much cheaper, and even though the maintenance is paid by Toyota, it may be a knee-jerk thing for the dealer to try to use the cheapest materials possible.

I haven't had any issues with the dealer service with my '11 Camry; I hope you'll be able to say the same. $5000 off the MSRP is a fantastic price, and an even better buy if gas prices continue to rise this summer as they predict. Congrats again on the new car.

No it does not. See below.

The 2AZ-FXE is a variant of the 2AZ-FE. It has the same bore and stroke, but has a higher physical compression ratio of 12.5:1. The net result is that the engine has a greater effective expansion than compression – making it Atkinson cycle, rather than the conventional Otto cycle.

The reduction in cylinder charge means reduced torque and power output, but efficiency is increased. This combination makes the 2AZ-FXE suitable for use in Hybrid vehicle, where peak torque and power demands can be met by the Electric motor and Battery (electricity).

Maximum output when used in the Camry is 147 hp (108 kW) at 6000 rpm with 138 ft·lbf (187 N·m) of torque at 4400 rpm.
