How about guided PT before shift?I have no problem with health insurance being rated based on risk. I cannot say much more than that for risk of going political. I'll leave that for individuals to study on their own outside of this forum.
The military has height and weight standards. I don't see why police cannot have the same. Both are in the protection business, albeit in different arenas. However, a level of physical fitness is required. However, as others have mentioned, paid time to perform PT would be a reasonable expectation.
I'd say they're usually about the same size. There's a big difference between a security guard and a police officer.
I agree with this.https://abc13.com/texas-state-troop...ysical-tests-waistline-measurements/11776404/
I think it’s a good idea.
Controversial, but I’ve never thought cops who were overweight and out of shape could do their job effectively.
Good for Texas State Troopers leadership for having some common sense.
Yeah, a single waistline number isn't really a great measurement of fitness for larger people... If they can pass some relevant endurance and fitness tests for duty then what does it matter?Physical ability is no dependent on physical size. The ability to perform the actions of the job are not dependent on size, but of physical ability.
Of course there is a typical correlation to those two, but as long as an officer can pass the physical fitness requirements, size should not be a factor.
I have no doubt someone large, let's say Shaq for easy identity recognition, would've obliterated they physical requirements with his non-compliant waistline while also being quite a 'commanding presence'.
Works to a point.Yeah, a single waistline number isn't really a great measurement of fitness for larger people... If they can pass some relevant endurance and fitness tests for duty then what does it matter?

Is that you wrestling the snake?
When I read the article I noticed that female officers get nearly 4 minutes more to run the 1.5 mile test than male officers do (15+ minutes for females vs. 11+ minutes for males). I guess the guy with the female partner is at a disadvantage if he's waiting for her help? It's a good idea. Being unfit physically could also affect the well being of an officer's partner if one cannot perform physically at 100%.

Are you aware of the difference in male and female physiology? When I read the article I noticed that female officers get nearly 4 minutes more to run the 1.5 mile test than male officers do (15+ minutes for females vs. 11+ minutes for males).
