Tesla Full Self Driving (FSD)

Yep. Just like people.
Full disclosure, I have FSD Supervised but rarely use it. But my guess is, more and more vehicles will be on the roads with it whether I like it or not. I may try the new release tomorrow.

Check out the latest Reuters article where information is coming out that even Tesla employees don't trust the technology. This should be a real eye opener but sigh Musk gets to make claims that would get most people jail time.Tesla employees don't believe its safety stats
Data is also coming out that fsd and autopilot aren't 10x safer, the data was cherry picked to make it look safer than it actually is.

Why you worry about people who buy Teslas is beyond me.

FSD is problematic at best. The biggest issue I had before is back. It stays too close to the center line with oncoming traffic. Usually it gets to the right as they get closer, but the way it hugs the center line scares people on to the shoulder which you can see in these two videos.





Then there was this one where the oncoming truck stayed closer to the center line which typically would make FSD get to the right. It didn't this time. If you watch it was drifting even closer to the center line. I grabbed the wheel and pulled it right which forced disengagement.



Final one was this skid steer that broke down in the road. At first you could see FSD kind of slowing down, but not actively trying to stop. I had to get into the physical brakes to stop. Regen wasn't enough from that distance and I could feel FSD wasn't even in full regen yet, let alone harder braking.



Every one of these videos were from the same day. My 40 mile one way commute to work.

I wholly believe self driving may be safer than the human population as a whole, it is not safer than human drivers who pay attention.

That's the problem: there's a large subset of drivers that just don't pay attention.

That seems to be a common issue with many lane centering systems. I don't know why it's so difficult to set an affinity for one side, especially on two lane roads. I don't use lane centering on two-lane highways for this precise reason. I had to teach my daughter to monitor the shoulder so she has an escape route if someone crosses the center marker. I've personally had vehicles completely fail at passing and force me onto the shoulder, one of which was an 18-wheeler. The other was a vehicle towing a trailer that had absolutely no business attempting a pass.

Many people are stupid behind the wheel. FSD can't cure that, but the biggest issue IMO is just Tesla overselling it and letting drivers get complacent while it's in operation. This false marketing, combined with the padding of stats and constant overpromising, demonstrates that Elon has completely lost the plot. I'm convinced he's constantly hyping up the technological advancements of his companies in order to boost their market value and his reported net worth. But purposely putting lives at risk to boost some ill-conceived measure of individual self worth is crossing the line into outright evil.
