Tesla Christmas Road Trip - Battery needed frequent re-charging - Range Estimates were 50% to 69% off

"Sales of Tesla cars in Germany, home to its only European manufacturing plant, plunged a breathtaking 77% in December year on year according to government data, capping off a disastrous fourth quarter in its largest market in the region.

Normally Tesla expects to increase monthly sales not just on an annual basis—which is typically a given—but even sequentially, in other words from one period to the next. This kind of hyperbolic growth is how it justifies a $750 billion market value on par with its next nine largest rivals combined.

A year-on-year sales decline for Musk’s carmaker is therefore an unusual occurrence to say the least, let alone one as severe as December's."

With the Highland release months ago for the European sales SHOULD be picking up yet a 77% market drop is huge. Maybe a fluke, or is it only signs of things to come? Face it Musk mocked the ceo of BYD a few years ago about how "They'd never see any significant market share. " well they've made significant headway in the Asian and European markets.
Who knows. If they fail, they fail. At least they're "small enough to fail" and won't get bailed out. 😂

No he won’t.

There is nothing more thrilling than thinking whether you have enough juice to do 132mls on I70 in Utah without any services. Once you miss single gas station, next service is additional 40mls.
99% of people are exactly what @Trav described. They sit, turn on the car, and tray to run me over with their dead cold oil in the sump. I cringe, thinking what will that do to their engine, but for some reason, they don’t give a crap about it.
There are a lot of people who would struggle with a Tesla, and other cars such as my 2 Lexi as well. My father, son of poor Ukrainian immigrants, was a Yale grad; the ROTC sent him there during WWII. He played football there. His roommate was Victor Kiam; he graduated with President Geo Bush. He would struggle with several of my cars; he loved the simplicity of his 1998 Accord, even though I was the one who took care of it.

On the other hand, I have numerous nieces and nephews who take to the Tesla like nothing; they love it. As younger generations make up more of the general population, low tech products will lose market share. Here's a recent article from Fortune. Perhaps you might like to read it?

"Perhaps unsurprisingly, younger Americans tend to be most enthusiastic. Some 88% of Gen Zers and 89% of millennials expressed interest in using new technologies, while Gen Xers (78%) and baby boomers (69%) agreed in strong but still smaller numbers. Additionally, over 80% of each generation agrees that it is important to keep an open mind about new technologies. And a majority in every generation indicate that they trust companies which create new technologies are doing so to improve society."

Your 99% number hardly reflects the rapid growth of tech in cars and in our world in general. And your opinions on a Tesla operation do not show an understanding of the car's operation.

Did you know BMW nearly doubled its electric car sales in 2023? BMW sold 375,183 BEVs, up 74.4% year-over-year, representing 14.7% of the total volume, which is close to its 15% target.

Kids here think its a status symbol, or at least appreciate them. You feel like a celebrity driving a Tesla here with all the yelling, complements, and waving from kids.

I guess you are reading something wrong in my reply. One just needs to read through the posts starting on page 1.
My post is an honest post about excuses being laid and blame placed on the driver of the car and news organization that did a long distance factual road test. Ive posted all this through the pages if you read through them.
More or less blame placed on the people doing the test and not the vehicle for failing. Of course completely meritless.

Did Fox say the vehicle failed?

Or did you?

What I heard them say was that Jeff Flocks trip took 3 and half hours longer than their predicted trip time for a gas car.

I realize I live in a special place, unique in all the world. There is a lot of money here and people put a high value on all things tech. A perfect recipe for Tesla, not to mention new cars in general. CA is a test ground for car company's new products.
There are a lot of Teslas around here, among other makes. There are 5 or 6 Model 3/Y on my street.

Of course Teslas can be status symbols, just like any BMW, MBZ, Bro Dozer, you name it. But I can tell you they are much less so than years ago; people just like them.

I always liked the term for Tesla as the "California Camry". 😂 They're becoming more common here, but it seems specifically the young hold them in high regard. It seems to me most look at them as BMW and Audi level and it seems that's what they're replacing, not that those were very common here either.

Highland was model 3.

Juniper is the Y upgrade happening in 24.
I saw a white Highland in my neighborhood last Sunday early morning. Roadster front and T E S L A across the back; no fake Shanghai emblem. I figured Fremont was about to deliver. I might see if the store has one on display.

I have my sights on the Performance... But our car is still perfect.

Are they available in the US without knowing someone or would it just be a test vehicle? I know they just finally added the for order recently on the site.

Dang it now I looked at the site and I'm thinking about an Ultra Red long range on the 19"s. See what you've done? 😂

When they are stuck on that 132mls stretch with two kids, they can disassemble that oversized iPad and enthusiastically eat it.

The Model 3 RWD and Dual Motor AWD are available on Tesla.com for delivery in Jan-Feb, depending on your location. Fremont builds in batches based on delivery location.

The new Model 3 Performance is under development; there are rumors of a much different car than the others. We'll see.

I'm not doing anything as of now. If the Performance is a game changer, that could change my decision.

...

(To the whole crowd)
Again, you all don't need to tells us that EVs are crap. Those that like them don't really care and you're wasting your breath. If you all want to argue and I'm on my day off, I've got time. Neither one of us are going to walk away happy though. I spend time on this site for multiple reasons and the smallest amount of that time since I joined has been on EVs. I'm a car enthusiast. You don't need to pee in my Cheerios because I bought a Tesla. Is it unsatisfying to hear if you don't like it, don't buy it? How long does this argument need to be had?

I really thought the EV forum would be to talk about EVs in general. Not have an anti EV political rally against them.
Why do you deny a fact based multi state trip on video then? All you have are words actually banned abbreviations in BITOG you used to describe the OP Road Test.
Sorry but road trip test reports (AND PERSONAL experiences with any vehicle) are part of the forum, just because you do not like what is being reported cannot be labeled political. You present as you having the agenda.

I just told you I question the validity of the video and you're holding it up as the end all, be all proof you've always wanted which is the definition of confirmation bias.

On an unrelated note I love that you used over and out. We get a good laugh at new guys that say that on the radio because saying out after over is contradictory. Over is used when expecting a response. Out is when you're done with the transmission and no response is wanted or needed. My favorite is when I out someone and they respond I love to say "I outed you!" 😂

I think a big issue is the charging at home. Yet to owners that have one it’s the best thing.

Some think it’s easy as just saying it. There are many older homes that can not be set up to charge for any reasonable price. Over 10 grand due to many many things needing upgrading or changed. There might be a solution at some point like that place on meter item. But real world some homes just can’t do it with existing set up.
