T-Mobile Raises Rates

AT&T ($65) and Verizon ($80) are both cheaper than TMO ($85) now for military plans. I'll be switching soon.

EDIT: I just saw the next TMO plans, $101 for the Go5G Next Military vs $85 for the "old" Magenta MAX Military. But they threw in a year of AAA and Hulu :ROFLMAO:
Also watch out when comparing TMO to the other big two. TMO covers the taxes and fees with their advertised rates. When I was shopping around, Verizon came out to 24% higher after the taxes and fees, despite having nearly identical advertised prices.

When you throw in Netflix, Hulu, and other services I already purchase monthly anywho, TMO comes out way ahead; for me at least.

Take a look at TELLO.....it rides on T-Mobile. I've had excellent svc from that carrier with a 4G phone. $10.72 monthly.

I am 5 miles outside of Leadville, Colorado-streaming YouTube TV with phone hotspot at 5G. I'm happy with T-Mobile 55plus plan.

Same. The ability to get a straight story on taxes was a big deal to me. VZ and ATT service getting worse made my decision to take my personal phone from ATT to T-Mobile. My work phone is vz and that service is worse than in the past.

We use the Netflix perk, but the unlimited in flight wifi is huge to me too.

I get the Netflix perk and in flight Wifi for frequent flyers and all fees and taxes included. (I dont do business with those that dont) and unlimited data. We pay for what we want and/or need.

Moving from Red Pocket over two years ago to the Magenta 55+ plan was easy stuff. We turned in our old iPhones and T-Mobile gave us new iPhone 13's plus a rate of (actual payment) $70 a month for two lines. That wasn't a bad deal at all. I figured over two years it cost me about $320 more for service over Red Pocket but we got two phones costing $1,600. The service was good but we did intend after this year to go back to a MVNO because we didnt need the perks. The Netflix made up some of the difference for now.
(heck I was even an investor in TMobile)

THEN this year the "uncarrier" started its switch to a regular big carrier. No longer could pay with my 2% cash back credit card forced us to use our debit card which we NEVER use for purchases.
A couple months later abandoned after 10 or more years grandfathering in rates and forced us into an almost 15% rate increase to $80. At that point, it became a waste of money to stay with them. I get what I need on the same networks for $47 less a month, two lines.

I dont need airline and the $7 a month I lose in Netflix credit doesnt come close to the $33 a month "buy the gig plan" (actual payment) that I pay US Mobile vs $80 T-Mobile started charging me. Like I say it's what you need or use. My $33 for two lines is for 12Gb of shared data a month. I could increase that more but we dont need it. Wife works from home, Im retired and most usage is on the WiFi network of our home. I feel way too many people are falling for paying for "unlimited" data marketing than they actually use.

I do see US Mobile recently changed their pricing structure and you pay more (actually less but they lowered the data) but still WAY cheaper than the big 3. SO far I seem grandfathered in. The MVNOs of course will be forced to increase rates as the big three increase rates as they buy the service from the big three. They also offer big discounts on paying annually.

Too many options but US Mobile still is an incredible deal with all their options but no one service is right for everyone. The squeeze is on the MVNOs from the big three and you are being forced to choose slightly less data plan that might not be quite enough for you or pay significantly more for data you will never use. Example Red Pocket offers a 5GB plan or a 20GB plan and nothing in-between. You can still squeak in a good deal at US mobile with something in-between

Data usage.
TO give an idea on our usage and back up my statement that not everyone needs unlimited data BUT the big guys WANT you to WANT unlimited data because they KNOW you are not going to come close to using or needing it. Yet it makes great marketing.
Before I get flamed I am NOT saying this is for everyone. I am saying most people have no clue what they are buying with ANY cell plan or subscription service for that matter.
My wife and I have 4 days left in our cell plan. Here is our cell data usage. I need to say we constantly are on our Iphones when away from our home WiFi but since we both are home all day long that isnt a concern.

We have US Mobile shared 12 gb data month plan, we have 4 days to go and have not come close to using all 12gb. Weekends are highest useage as we maybe streaming music at the beach and or boat for hours at a time.
I also have "Auto-Top off. Should I run low on data US Mobile will automatically add more at $4 every 2gb. I will not need it but even if I do, I am only paying $33 a month for two lines.

(this chart is my line, 4 days to go and I only used less than 5gb for the month. That big spike is 2+ gb in one day day, it was the day on the boat that I was uploading many video clips of our short trip into the ocean while on the boat to friends and family.
Screenshot 2024-07-17 at 10.10.06 AM.jpg

Blow my wife only used 3GB so far for the month. Generally her small spikes are we use her phone for streaming Apple Music. On her most useage for a day was only 434mb.

Screenshot 2024-07-17 at 10.10.23 AM.jpg

Our total for the month with 4 days to go is 8Gb out of our 12 Gb plan, more than enough but if we didnt make it, automatically with our plan another 2gb would be added for a cost of $4 on our $33 plan.
BTW- ANY ADDITIONAL DATA PURCHASED WITH AUTO-TOP OFF DOES NOT EXPIRE, it stays with your account until you need it.
I make no efforts to save using data, Im more than willing to pay more if I need it. I just dont but if we did, There are some great deals still with US Mobile, maybe Redpocket too. Having used MNVOs for most of the last 15 years I know the service is always good so have no problem paying a year in advance IF the savings is big. Right now we pay monthly. My daughter does pay RedPocket by the year and has for years now.

PS with US Mobile (and maybe Redpocket too) I can switch from the Verizon network to T-Mobile network on the fly if I choose too.
Right now my hatred of T-Mobile forcing me to switch do to their price increase makes me want to punish them. This is the first time in 22 years my personal phone is being used on the Verizon network.

My observations are the voice is a bit more pleasant, crisp and has more treble in it. The data works well inside buildings and stores where T-Mobile in this area struggles sometimes horribly.
With that said, when T-Mobile does have a good signal as its tested data speeds are faster, thing is you will never notice that on a cell phone with a tiny 6 inch screen. SO if your looking to beat the speed test, if you can get a good T-Mobile signal T-Mobile will win in this area.
If you're looking for good all around coverage and crisp sounding voice at slower "tested" speeds that you never notice. Verizon wins in this area. For fun I might try T-Mobile soon. For one reason, it's a US Mobile feature to be able to switch on the fly, so I would be doing it for more the thrill of trying out the feature.

BOTTOM LINE, I am saving $47 a month for two lines by dumping T-Mobile Magenta 55+ plan and switching to US Mobile. Ok make that saving $40 a line since I am losing T-Mobile $7 bill credit for Netflex.

Full credit goes to @14Accent for posting about US Mobile in here or I might have been back to RedPocket which is still good but not as good for out use.

Good for you. But good luck when you get deprioritized on both networks because you’re paying Pennies for excess bandwidth versus the actual users. It will be interesting to see how that works out, and if you report back on it.

VZ is far worse than Tmo at this point in. Any places, so good luck with that too.

I dont need luck, I can report back right now. I have used MVNOs for the last 15 years minus 2. Never an issue. SO there is your feedback.

ALL cell service is dependent on your particular area. More so in what might be considered more rural. Also how important a phone is to someone? Got me.

Im sure you must have read my posts and also another in here how T-Mobile becomes a PITA when inside stores here along the coast for me. (not sure where for the other user) Many times we lost service. For example go shopping with my wife and then cant contact her inside the store to see where she is at. Cant make calls, look up products in places like Home Depot. I and the other poster agree, T-Mobile 5g network is much expanded, thing is the signal dies inside many stores without towers nearby. It seems like T-Mobile is forcing 5g (maybe all they have in rural areas) and it just doesnt work in many places yet.
Verizon has more even coverage be it on the LTE vs 5g but at least you can use your phone and data at speeds that make no noticeable difference between the two.

Ive used T-Mobile for the last two years direct from T-Mobile so I am certainly qualified to "report back" right now. Using Verizon on US Mobile MVNO is no issue and if ever was I can try T-Moible on MVNO.
Your comments are way to narrow, even lower priced plans on the major carriers have the same disclosures. Again, whatever is important to you but why would I pay $100+ a month when I can pay $33 and have no issues.

You saying Verizon is far worse than T-Mobile, what qualifies you? when did you last use it?
My qualification is I used TMobile the last two years and have noticed better coverage with Verizon on an MVNO for the last two months at $47 less a month. AS previously posted it doesnt mean for fun I wont switch on the fly to try T-Mobile since US mobile gives me that option with a click of the mouse and I hear soon will be able to with ATT.

Heck in previous posts this last Sunday I uploaded close to 2GB of video from my boat off the coast in the ocean on my Verizon MVNO. No issue.

But best of all, between these discussions? For someone on the fence (not saying you) anyone can try the service, if at ANYTIME its not what they want or expect, you can switch to your expensive Primary Carrier ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon plans at much higher cost.
Its not life or death for some to be glued to a phone 24/7 but I ahve to admit, my wife and I are on it way to much and still never have an issue.
This is the part I do not understand in these discussions. What difference does any of this make? For someone who wants to try a 2 line plan for 30 to $50 just do it. If you dont like it, dont do it next month. Kind of like buying ice cream, try a new one, dont like it, buy the other one next time. :) All we are doing is buying a service for 30 days, not a lifetime commitment.

Like @alarmguy said, all cell service coverage and quality is dependent on your location and network. As for US Mobile, the amount of data you pay for in your plan is Priority level data that is not de-prioritized by Verizon or T-Mobile.

Verizon has more even coverage be it on the LTE vs 5g but at least you can use your phone and data at speeds that make no noticeable difference between the two.

It appears that US Mobile has changed their plan structure again! As of today, they offer a 10gb shared data plan for $28 instead of the 12gb shared data plan offered last month for $33. This is actually better since adding 2gb more data brings the cost up to $32/mo. and any of the unused "supplemental" 2gb data carries over to subsequent months.

You saying Verizon is far worse than T-Mobile, what qualifies you? when did you last use it?

Another recent change made by US Mobile only allows you to have 2 carrier "teleports" for free on the latest shared data plans (I don't know if it is 2 per month or 2 per line). After that, it is $2 per teleport, just like on their other non-shared data plans.

“Never an issue” may or may not be your frame of reference of what you’re doing.

I get it that you’re angry, bitter perhaps. I was happy with ATT for years and then kept getting more and more spots that wouldn’t work. That’s all gone with T mobile… so for everyone mad in one direction, there’s someone happy in another.

I also keep standalone data in other locations for $5/mo and it’s so easy.

You’re right, what difference does it make? All that matters is that service is reliable and fast. ATT stopped being reliable. VZ (work phone, prioritized data) also has gotten lousier. So for every one that is bad, one is good I guess.

My comment was purely that, as much as you may think that you’re not a second class citizen on a third party carrier, I suspect that you maybe when using heavy data in heavy spots. Even if you didn’t have the issues in the past. Data use is going up rapidly for many folks for a range of reasons. I’m not going to compare my successes or happiness with a 3G signal on an iPhone 3s to what we have today, regardless of carrier. Thus the interest of if things change, and my question. Interesting also that now you have to pay to swap carriers if you exceed so many changes a month.

I’m sure you do realize experience with cell service it is still dependent on region and area.

I’ve never been unhappy with any cell service. I just don’t pay the rates that the major carriers charge. I stopped that practice well over 10 years ago.

We may be talking about the same thing in the sense that I’m not angry about anything and you’re explaining to me you’re not angry about anything :)
I’m not sure why you may think I’m angry about something LOL

I certainly do not swap carriers very frequently. At most every couple years.
Price rules. I may try swapping carriers for fun only because this new service allows me to instantly do so with the click of a mouse at no cost and since I am very, very much into electronics, it might be fun.🙃

This is for anyone else, considering it
It’s not only me but others in this form of chimed in they are very happy

I was about to mention this morning in yesterdays posts, you may not be aware that I have used MVNOs for well over a decade and in the states of NC and SC I have not had any issues at all. I mean zip. IN the past all my MVNOs were on ATT network.
Also for a good part of those years I had not only my personal MVNO phone but 50+ hours a week my company provided Verizon iPhones AND iPads all on Verizon service itself.
I have had a lot of experience with cell phones in the last 22 years.

Anyway, I understood your comment about priority but I have not experienced any issues in the areas I have lived and I have traveled one end of each state to the other, literally almost every week as well as border states. Dirt poor rural and cities like Charlotte.
So this is why for me, I could care less about priority data or not. I am glad to pay $47 less a week for something that doesnt effect me but if it did it would still be worth it simply because it doesnt matter to me.

Ok, with that said, because of our posts and that link I posted above from Business Insider I read that with US Mobile Warp service (which everyone gets if you choose the Verizon network) you get all priority data! Actually pretty cool, seems like they are the only MVNO that offers this. It could be just trying to grab market share. I dont know. I have known most all MVNOs and until @14Accent never heard of USMobile. Actually I am wondering if he knew this because we talked about "for fun" switching to the T-Mobile network to see if any difference If I remember correctly. There is someone else in here that also has the service. Im not sure any of us knew that if we choose to use their "Warp" service it comes with not only Verizon service but also with Priority Data. Honestly I was never a big fan of Verizon, I guess because of price and my Verizon work phone worked no better than my ATT MVNO private phones in my home state and border states.

Anyway thought you would be interested. Besides the article in the link I provided I found it on their website. Also the "speedtest" in my photo is just part of the USmobile information page, not an actual speediest that I did.

Also full disclosure, in our more rural (lack of better description) of the NC coast there isnt a lot of Verizon 5g service compared to T-Mobile but if you read past posts from me and others, the Verizon service if even "only" LTE is more reliable VS TMobile that might indicate 5g but signal drops fast in large stores here.

Our plan renews on the 29th. I have used 9.6Gb and my wife has used 16.9Gb 😅 And a massive thank you to all who posted about US Mobile, I’m saving $60/month!

ATT user here Unlimited; $105 for two lines and the reception is outstanding
Trying to understand this. What is your actual payment?
Cheapest I can find on ATT site is roughly $130 for two lines actual payment. Im not at all doubting you, just asking what plan and if it is still available. Not that I want it, I pay $33 for two lines, actual payment.

US Mobile is either $50 or $88 two lines actual payment for your type of plan with more perks than ATT at that price I suspect but could be wrong. You get a choice of Verizon or T-Mobile Service
