Most people are brand loyal. I tear things apart. I clock flow into filters with a stopwatch. I filter flour/oil mixtures through them for examimation. I can tell you the average clearance between the center end cap material and the filter can of a new PF53 measured .06". I weigh bearings to the 0.1 grain after sitting for 2 weeks to see which oil sticks to them better and which runs off. I mix STP with oil to test its viscosity change.
These are just the home experiments. I also read incessantly....and I contact manufacturers and ask questions.
...So regarding Pennzoil, read what? I see a lot of people like Pennzoil on this board...but that means nothing to me. I like facts instead. I don't like two trusted mechanics at two different times showing me oil pans full of shiney engine dust that they told me was from YB. This was a long time ago.
So...did they fix it or not?
Good to know...
I have used PP and PYB and have a UOA from the PP and it works just as good as my Amsoil for the time I have it in service. The PYB I don't have a UOA on but I know that the Kia engine it is in sees stop/go traffic, extended idling and it stays clean a long time and the engine seems to perform better and quieter running it. I know this isn't scientific but I can relate to the people on the board that say it's a good oil because my experiences have been positive. I have never seen anything but dirty oil come out and the filters have been spotless too, so I would have to say any issues they may have had in the past have been fixed IMO.
