Swine Flu!

Okay, now I am actually worried. I listened to a virologist today (on Hannity, yes, but still...he seemed to know what he was speaking of) who said that this virus has a VERY strong chance of being as potent as the 1918 strain. He said that this is the 1st swine flu strain that has so easily become a human to human transmissable virus since 1918. He suspects that as the virus circulates into the southern hemisphere and takes off during their flu season, it will exchange enough DNA with "normal" human flu strains to make it much more potent at infecting humans by next fall. He also suspects that it will be virtually tamiflu resistant by the time it comes back around. In his opinion, massive doses of vaccine at the ready are the only hope of holding off a major crisis.

Good man...not to feed the conspiracy theorists on this one, but when I lived in WV back in 1998-1999 the federal government was sponsoring a free pneumonia vaccination for all "interested" parties (read as those who are into the koolaid). I thought it was pretty wild that there was no other place in the world offering pneumonia vaccinations to healthy people in 1999, but in Parsons, WV it was nearly mandatory!!! I managed to avoid it like the plague and headed back to MI for work for a month. All and all I fear peanut butter and pistachios more than the bacon flu!

Well........I saw it......I was at Costco today and saw a guy in the parking lot with a single cartridge respirator with the eye shield built in. It looked like the old style pig looking respirator.
My Mom pointed him out and chuckled. I said he who lives through it will have the last laugh........

Geesh, I though Y2K was 9 years ago. All the sudden, we're buyng ammo, worrying about a plague, etc, etc, etc.....

I get hit hard with everyday colds, and I'm out for a long time. If you don't see me posting after this outbreak is over you'll know what happened.
