No, now don't take it the wrong way, this isn't meant to be an anti-government rant. After all, I do work for the govt. I'm just saying, the CDC...I've already seen where they said it's "too late to try and control" this stuff or something like that? I mean, haven't we spent a lot of money planning for a contingency like this since the 90's? Makes me worry since the wife is a doc... Guess my flock would be one of the first to go...

Stop trying to be provocative, genocide is defined by human engineered population reduction or mass homicide of select groups. This is an epidemic in the making, and while the fact it is human-avian-swine hybrid virri on the loose there is no evidence yet to suggest it is an engineered bio-agent.

I dunno folks, I was reading somewhere today that the highest incidence was in 25-45 yr olds. That's ominous as those were the demographics that were especially prone to death back in the Spanish flu epidemic. Maybe this will be nothing more than a nice reminder that our defenses against these types of epidemics still need work. Knock on wood.

Sometimes the immune response is what kills. There are good drugs here to prevent that.
If it does hit at least the unemployment numbers will look a little better.

We don't carry the sizable burden of the planet in terms of population. We don't need population reduction (by any means). This needs to occur in places where population growth matches bacterial growth.
Like your comfy chair? Do the math. We're only 5% of the global population and command (something like) 25% of its energy production. How long do you expect that to last?

This SF version is not that different from 'standard' seasonal human flu. That's why it's only now being 'discovered' in the US. It's been circulating for a while, and making folks sick, but hasn't killed (AFAIK) anyone north of the border. It's far more established in Mexico, and more infections = more deaths, mostly from people in poor condition. Getting it would suck, but you'd likely get over it, just like any other flu.
That said, it could mutate and become something nastier. Or not.
