Supermarket prices

Safeway is a rip plus they have deceptive pricing - from sign placement to inclusions/exclusions

Nugents Corner and Everson Market are local to us. They have a lot of junkyard food but aren’t terrible for what they are

So many farmer markets and local sellers here we are really blessed to have good gut health

I don't think I've ever seen, much less heard of, PW Markets. Looks like they've all been closed now.
Closest is in tx

IGA is another one thats been around for a really long time - at least around the South. It seems to be the Piggly Wiggly compliment. Small towns have one or the other, but seldom both.
In Indiana and Illinois they are the primary supermarket in rural towns if it's large enough. Otherwise, it's Dollar General.

Yes, throughout their lives we've instilled in them by example a strong work ethic, and personal responsibility. We made sure they understood how to succeed in life. They witnessed this, and took the initiative to study and work hard, and to strive to succeed. So far, that is working out wonderfully for them. Many of their peers who took a more lackadaisical approach to life, and their parents who enabled it, ARE still living at home with mom and dad.

Our kids know that mom and dad would be a safety-net if needed, but they don't need it. They are proud of that fact, and so are we.

Same here….

We had Piggly Wiggly in Macon, Georgia when I was a kid. We had A&P and Kroger too. I remember going to an old Kroger store with my grandfather. I don't know if Piggly Wiggly is still around, have not been back to Georgia or South Carolina in a very long time. I do remember people in Savannah, Jacksonville, South Georgia and Charleston/most of the Low Country did not pronounce the whole name. They simply called it "The Pig". Maybe it's still the same way now.

It is better to help now than after ya pass..a lot less arguing over the will..and ya at least can control how the money is spent somewhat..
I agree. Different time / different place, but I was pretty much on my own from 18. Yes, I could stay at my parents if I wanted, and did for a couple summers in college while working, but that was it. Wife was about the same. Sad thing is my wife's parents have passed and if they every get the estate figured out we will get a reasonably large chunk of money (farmland, otherwise they were poor). Likely similar from my mother as well. Sad thing is - I will have no use for it at this point.

A couple thousand when my first daughter was born would have been very helpful though.

I have no intention of waiting till I am dead to help my kids.

Yea..I didn't have any generational wealth to follow me either. The last of the inlaws passed recently..both my very poor parents passed 25 years ago. The inlaws house sold for crazy money but the money for us will only mess things up right now. I took care of my parents to the end. Luckly the girl I met in 1977 is still with me..

What this had to do with prices I dunno..But I remember when eggs were...

IGAs have been closing or getting bought out en masse in this region.
We used to have IGA here in Ontario but I believe they have been gone for probably 30 years now, most of them converted to Foodland. IGA still has stores in other provinces though.

In our area we have several starter brothers markets. They used to have the best prices compared to Vons, Alpha Beta etc.

Seems like staters prices have sky rocketed recently. Is this normal in other places?

Today's prices are nothing in comparison to the near future where a day's wages will be needed to eat dinner for that particular day. People will be so poor, that the country governments will own everything, including the place you live in and the land on it.
