Used to be a bunch around here. But you are right; Joey Franco's PW Market, family owned, quit around 2010.I don't think I've ever seen, much less heard of, PW Markets. Looks like they've all been closed now.

In Indiana and Illinois they are the primary supermarket in rural towns if it's large enough. Otherwise, it's Dollar General.IGA is another one thats been around for a really long time - at least around the South. It seems to be the Piggly Wiggly compliment. Small towns have one or the other, but seldom both.
Yes, throughout their lives we've instilled in them by example a strong work ethic, and personal responsibility. We made sure they understood how to succeed in life. They witnessed this, and took the initiative to study and work hard, and to strive to succeed. So far, that is working out wonderfully for them. Many of their peers who took a more lackadaisical approach to life, and their parents who enabled it, ARE still living at home with mom and dad.
Our kids know that mom and dad would be a safety-net if needed, but they don't need it. They are proud of that fact, and so are we.
IGAs have been closing or getting bought out en masse in this region.IGA is another one thats been around for a really long time - at least around the South. It seems to be the Piggly Wiggly compliment. Small towns have one or the other, but seldom both.
That is the story here for Piggly Wiggly. Used to be 3 in the area, now there is 1.IGAs have been closing or getting bought out en masse in this region.
I wonder, can you buy Kosher food in Piggly Wiggly?I'm in Ohio and had to look up where Piggy Wiggly locations are because I've never seen one. There are 5 Ohio locations in the Appalachian part of the state.
It is better to help now than after ya pass..a lot less arguing over the will..and ya at least can control how the money is spent somewhat..I wonder how many are helping their adult children with living expenses ?
I agree. Different time / different place, but I was pretty much on my own from 18. Yes, I could stay at my parents if I wanted, and did for a couple summers in college while working, but that was it. Wife was about the same. Sad thing is my wife's parents have passed and if they every get the estate figured out we will get a reasonably large chunk of money (farmland, otherwise they were poor). Likely similar from my mother as well. Sad thing is - I will have no use for it at this point. It is better to help now than after ya pass..a lot less arguing over the will..and ya at least can control how the money is spent somewhat..
Yea..I didn't have any generational wealth to follow me either. The last of the inlaws passed recently..both my very poor parents passed 25 years ago. The inlaws house sold for crazy money but the money for us will only mess things up right now. I took care of my parents to the end. Luckly the girl I met in 1977 is still with me..I agree. A couple thousand when my first daughter was born would have been very helpful though.
I have no intention of waiting till I am dead to help my kids.
We used to have IGA here in Ontario but I believe they have been gone for probably 30 years now, most of them converted to Foodland. IGA still has stores in other provinces though.IGAs have been closing or getting bought out en masse in this region.
Today's prices are nothing in comparison to the near future where a day's wages will be needed to eat dinner for that particular day. People will be so poor, that the country governments will own everything, including the place you live in and the land on it.In our area we have several starter brothers markets. They used to have the best prices compared to Vons, Alpha Beta etc.
Seems like staters prices have sky rocketed recently. Is this normal in other places?
