Supermarket prices

I did go to walmart last night. I was comparing to my last receipt from Harris Teeter. Lots of things are cheaper at Wallies for the same thing. 10% discount seems to be the norm, comparing only identical, branded items.

Unfortunately I would have to shop at two places. Not worth the time likely.

It’s been said by some knowledgeable people that food prices should come around Thanksgiving. I hope they are correct. Saw a loaf of Sara Lee bread for 4.99 the other day. Ridiculous. I thought when diesel fuel came down that food prices would but it hasn’t seemed to have happened.

There is no priority to help this. It will only go up and stay up.

I am fortunate not impactful to household budget however feel for everyone out there.

Today's prices are nothing in comparison to the near future where a day's wages will be needed to eat dinner for that particular day. People will be so poor, that the country governments will own everything, including the place you live in and the land on it.
Generally when systems of control ramp up to max, populations drop rapidly.

Falling populations destroy the ruling classes wealth and ability to control

BNPL helped prop up consumer spending.

Correct, most people have zero interest in paying back their BNPL debt.

They are not selling food, they are selling addictions. If you are trying to save money probably not buying snacks would be better than finding good deals on snacks (same goes for alcohol and cigerette).

About food pricing. It is up all over the world due to inflation, and consolidation of large entity, and everything else cost of living goes up so the people in the industry has to be paid more to produce the same amount. Don't believe people telling you inflation is 3%, I think 5-10% is more like it in the grocery and rent department if you are comparing the same quality through the years.

Pretty sure your correct on the Inflation rate. Food in the last 3 months is averaging 4% and increasing, and I believe the BLS lags, not to mention all kinds of adjustments, but i doubt they adjust for shrinkflation - if they try it would be hard.

It doesn't really matter. If it rose 0.3 percent last month compounded at 0.3 from each previous month - prices are going up and paychecks are not.

The latest from the BLS

The index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs rose 1.9 percent over the month, as the index for eggs increased 15.2 percent. The index for other food at home rose 0.3 percent in January and the index for nonalcoholic beverages increased 0.9 percent. The dairy and related products index rose 0.3percent over the month. The index for fruits and vegetables fell 0.5 percent in January, as the index for tomatoes declined 2.0 percent and the index for other fresh vegetables fell 2.6 percent. The cereals and bakery products index decreased 0.4 percent over the month as the breakfast cereal index fell 3.3 percent.

Here is a flat of No Name low fat peanut butter in the 2 kg size. It competes with Kraft low fat peanut butter. Kraft was zooming in price during the inflation days so No Name came out with their “ low fat” version to compete. Kraft peaked out at $14 ( $10 USD), and No Name started at $8.50 but the low fat version continued to climb in price while the price of Kraft started coming down because their sales were decimated in Canada.

Yesterday, they ended up at $10.50 for No Name and $11.00 for Kraft. That was enough for me and I purchased the better tasting Kraft. In the next while the 25% counter tariff will kick in and I’ll report back. Try as we did, we just can’t grow peanuts up here. :D

Seriously almost everyone in the USA can cut at least 30% (or more) out of their food budget.
Drink water instead of manufactured drinks, do not buy snack foods or prepared foods and your done.

Easy stuff, buy protein, fruit, vegetables and dairy. Cook your own meals and no one will struggle.

Not to long ago we used to live like that in the USA. Look at any photos of waist sizes in the 1950s and 1960s, even part of the 1970s when the fast food binge started.

We love to complain but we need to teach the youth that corporations are not needed to feed them like we feed rodents. They got their hooks in many, made us fat and lazy on processed garbage I didnt even feed my dog.

Maybe we'll all lose some weight if needed. Might be a blessing in disguise.
You don't see many overweight people in the old black and white photos. Granted they also had to do more physical labor just to eat.

I learned from my coworker who is older, not that I wasn't aware, but really never thought of it too much.

He gets rain checks. Why not? Don't fight people over sale items, AND, don't have to store the item right now.

Example. My son insists on a certain yogurt--it's like $6.49 for 4. Rip off. If I were to order and pickup at Walmart, maybe $4.50.

It went on sale at ACME $2.49. Good luck getting it, odds are slim to none. Like remember the days of the buffet when they brought out the snow crab legs? A swarm of locusts descend as soon as they are brought out and in seconds nothing is left but shells.

Solution? Get a rain check! Why, not only 1, but 4! How come 4?

Because, most of the time, there won't be the qty 6 they are limiting one to. There will be 1, 2, 3 if you're lucky. So use a raincheck even if there is only 1,2,3. and maybe you'll get lucky and when you go there are 6, so grab 6. Freeze them.

I ain't too proud to clip coupons. But that's one thing I like about Costco, no coupon needed.

Heck I do the Groupon for 2 20 lb. propane fills for $15. Because I refuse to pay the big box store Blue Rhino prices...

Just joined BJs yet again. $18 to join, $20 back when you spend $60, and $15 off a one time $200 purchase. We basically got paid $20+$15-$18 or $17 to join. Key is when spending $200, don't buy unnecessary stuff.

There are folks reading this as I type, ah, what poor people go through to make ends meet lol
