In our area we have several starter brothers markets. They used to have the best prices compared to Vons, Alpha Beta etc.

Seems like staters prices have sky rocketed recently. Is this normal in other places?

yeah then next week its 4 for 10
We shop at 2-3 places and shop the ad
Today boneless pork chops 7.39/lb

Got value pack center cut with bone pork chops $1.99/lb

The industry continues to consolidate. If the FTC didn't block the Kroger deal on Albertsons, I'd imagine prices to be worse. So that basically leaves Walmart, Amazon, Target in the top 10. Excluding Costco, of course.

If you haven't seen the writing on the wall yet, as the US effectively splits up and global trade gets shut down, the future of food in America will revert to what it was for our great grandparents - local community gardens, farmers markets, buying clubs, direct farm to consumer, etc.

Frito-Lay and Pepsi are ripping off the public. You can buy the same quality snacks at Aldi for less than 1/3 of that price, it's ridiculous. I refuse to shop at traditional grocery stores, their prices are outrageous.

Everything I need comes from Aldi, Trader Joe's and Costco. The quality is just as good or better, and the savings are immense. I also don't need to play games with a shopper card or have their stupid app on my phone to digitally clip a coupon to get the sale price.

Spices - .99 at Aldi, $9.99 at Safeway. Get out of here.

We shop the deals and stock up at different places. We also buy our meats straight from the farm. Fresh eggs from our chickens. We make bread and rarely eat processed food.

And yes prices have shot up especially on processed food and junk.

Publix has lots of Buy One Get One free deals.

I stock up on items that are not perishable.

I do all the shopping, my wife does NOT do any grocery shopping. I’m in & out in 15 minutes.

Good strategy...the more ready-made food people eat not only is it usually not great for you but also more expensive than from scratch meals. My wife is very strategic with making food when it comes to meal planning, leftovers, nutrition, etc. As the recipient, it's a blessing.

I rarely pay attention to prices--what am I going to do, starve? [but the wife does most of the shopping, apparently I'm not trusted.]

We do most of our cooking at home, not a lot of processed foods, not that much for snacks--we have a few favorites but at some point, you can't live like Scrooge.

We have a Costco but rarely go due to the huge lines.

No trader joes even remotely close.

I walked into our new Aldi, saw the prices and walked right back out. Cheaper at the grocery store at least here.

Which is why living below your means is important.
Sometimes that's easier said than done. There's a lotta people struggling out there.
I was in downtown Palo Alto earlier today. FYI, Palo Alto is the highest cost per square foot property value in Silicon Valley.

There was a Dignity on Wheels shower and clothes warshing truck at the Town and Country Village Shopping Center on the corner of El Camino and Embarcadero. We bought a dozen bakery cookies for $30 for wifey's business trip tomorrow.

But for the grace...
