Stop staring at the smart phones!

Andre, we agree on something. I don't care for the high tech phones. I think it is hurting teenagers socially. My nephew was afraid to ask out a girl in person. lol

Well what do you know...we do!
Yes, they certainly don't help for expanding ones ability to interact in person. I would imagine that painfully shy kids would use them frequently to avoid real interaction.
I don't think that's a socially healthy thing, personally.

I feel like yelling at the parent to get off the phone and pay more attention to they're kids, but I don't. To me, it's a form of passive child neglect. It irritates me to no end.

I disagree, my kids are 6 & 8 and that age where they need "half my attention" but also need to go out on that playground and figure the world out by themselves. I don't stare at my phone when we're all home, but it's nice to be mentally stimulated by news or whatever while they're running their little legs off (and getting tuckered out).

They're at that magical age where I don't want them running to me for every problem, but to still return to base for the major ones.

Haha that's awesome! Poor lil guy :P Rejection would definitely be less painful over a text then in person huh!

Wasn't even worth the breath of air to talk to her.

During the opening trailers, she kept using her flash on her phone to take pictures of her under disciplined child. She also texted, Facebooked and Amazoned all throughout the movie.

I tried looking for her after the movie to get additional movie theatre etiquette from her, but she was no where to be seen.

Oh man! That would truly be about as annoying as it gets! What a perfect example of how many people are with these things. They can't even put them away and enjoy a movie.
Pitiful woman.

The rude behavior of people in public is an epidemic worse than anything you can comprehend. Too many people think it's OK to use a phone in a theatre. Talking texting.. taking selfies, with flash, in front row. And it's not just kids. Makes you wonder why they chose the movie theatre, if they are not into the movie. Great waste of $15 - Oh, and NEVER see a movie opening night. You won't be able to get away from the inconsiderates. Hey, even one person in the threatre.. Have had that person come in 5 minutes after movie starts, sit right in front of you in empty theatre, use phone whole time.

Have also had people snore. Very loudly. In theatre. Yes, that's right. Sleep, and snore louder than any audio...

Remember, these people also drive on the road. Imagine how they behave there.

These are the people that drive without signaling, speed on a shoulder to cut off a line of cars and block a lane to do so, and all sorts and manner of speeding and passive-aggression on the road.. New cars, old cars, German cars, all kinds. It's truly offensive, and more often than not, the phone is to the ear.

Never a cop in sight. This is another problem.

I couldn't agree more. Where are the police when an irresponsible man-child is recording himself with one hand while driving his jalopy Volvo down the highway at 100mph, or driving on a wheel and rotor until they're completely destroyed?

? I don't see police when I am driving. It seems anyone can zoom down shoulders, or, what I see more is chains of cars going high speed.. Today it was a white BMW 5-series crossover with out of state plates, followed by a white Ford Fusion.. The Ford Fusion cut me off, FROM the shoulder.. and a gray Nissan Maxima was in on the weaving through traffic chain of cars. At least white Ford used the blinker when coming from the shoulder. Good thing I am not a road-rager. I usually peek at the drivers, to see what manner of society feels it is OK to just drive without blinkers, not in proper lanes, can go within inches of a car in front of it.. just to get caught at the light, up ahead. Assuming they don't simply go through it.

It's hard for me to describe the stuff that actually goes on on these roads.

Yeah. Drivers in Bayonne are the worst.

Police cost tax dollars. Lots of tax dollars. When levies come up during elections, most people tend to vote them down....or the increase in officers is so small that the effect is minimal.
I would gladly pay taxes for more law enforcement IF social programs and entitlements would be stopped. Where I live they prefer to build skate parks and community centers (places for low income people to get things for free) as well as more bus routes (again, for low income people that can't afford a car).

If the social/entitlement programs were stopped, how would people have an income? We can't expect people to work for a living, can we? You're making way too much sense here...

Police, as they participate in traffic enforcement, are primarily generators of bonus revenue for municipalities. There's very little money to be made driving around (and, it would have to be an unmarked car) looking for actual dangerous behavior. It's so much easier to spend a few grand on a RADAR/LASER gun and let the money roll in.

The millennial generation probably cannot even do basic multiplication without one (smartphone.)

This is the guy that videos himself with one hand while driving on public roadways.

They said the same thing about TV in the 50s.

They said the same thing about Nintendo in the 80/90s.

Then it was supposed to be computer games.

Electronic entertainment and the latest rebellious music has been slated to destroy the world since decades before I was born.

10 years from now, there will be a new horror story about the latest device that is threatening to kidnap humanity.

The world continues to turn, not caring.

Smartphones have completely changed the way we interact (or lack of), communicate (if you can call it that), and what we perceive as being "social". The use of these gizmos has been the cause of many deaths as well. They are not as innocuous as a TV set in the home or even a Nintendo game in the hand.

All one need do is go to a mall or movie theater and look at others. Rather obvious the huge impact (and not all in a good way) these things have on our society. I consider it's insidious effects more alarming than any other technological device in human history.

^ Right.

PLUS, now, the head is tilted "way down", thus causing the physical upper back & neck problems.

I focus on the things that concern me and my society I am a part of. I realize the tremendous use smartphones can and do have for business use. I take no issue with that and see it as a needed tool in the modern, fast paced world.
It's the use of these devices in place of human interaction and partaking in the real/physical world that is a great concern. We are a nation of blind zombies to anything outside our 4 inch screen. It's become an addiction and dependence upon these things. I think people are MORE stressed partially because of them. We are in essence, slaves to the smartphone and to the companies that provide the access to them.
Just my opinion.
