Stop staring at the smart phones!

Trust me, if I knew of a better place and could be gainfully employed...I would go there. Interestingly enough, in the past, one COULD seek out different areas in the U.S. where societal/cultural normalities would coincide as a better fit for what people were looking for. That's very difficult today as we have become so homogenous. Same kinds of people...same morals...same influences...etc. Especially with smartphones and the internet being available in your back pocket anywhere in the country.

Are you isolating yourself because smartphones are available EVERYWHERE?

What are you asking, exactly? Do I isolate myself from society? When it gets to me I do. Just a simple trip to the grocery store or shopping mall (with my girlfriend), makes me want to just stay at home or go hiking in the woods away from people.
I know that smartphones are aviable everywhere. My girlfriend owns an iPhone 6 plus.
I hate the thing...but she uses it to keep in touch with family in Mexico and to take pics.

I didn't realize you'd fear such a simple question.
You see, the anonymity of the internet...as well as using idiotic smartphones for "communication"...makes it hard to understand or even get an idea where a person is coming from. Face to face is always best...and a normal way of communicating. By asking your age, among perhaps a few other questions...I would understand you better.
But hey....no big deal man.
Go back to your gizmo.

It's ironic because I give a perfectly valid statement about why it's helpful to know a few things about somebody so that I may understand them better?

You sure have a weird way of interpreting irony. Quite the stretch. But ok. You sure burned me real good with that zinger!! Wow!

Actually your question about age came off as insulting, as if you were asking if he were a child, which was ironic after you told him to talk to the hand.

Ok...that's what happens on the internet. Intent is awfully hard to read.

Look...I know I'm rude and an argumentative person sometimes. I am honestly not a very happy person either. I admit not being the most friendly person on this board. I'm probably pretty much despised because I am so opinionated. At this time in my life, I honestly feel that everything I knew as "normal" is all gone. I have severe back pain most of the time...my hair is falling out...and women have ceased paying any attention to me whatsoever. (Not that I really want them to...but once in a while would be nice). My eyesight gets worse every year...and I am bored with just about everything no matter how hard I try. I am lucky my girlfriend puts up with me if you want some honesty.

Yep...I'm having a rough time right now so I am taking it out on just about anybody that I think will argue with me.

Not good...but at least I am honest.

I think you're having a hard time differentiating being a smart phone zombie and being productive and useful with one. Everything I've read from Double Wasp suggests that he is the latter. He even increased his business sales because one. That means more money... We all have to appreciate that don't we? You shouldn't bag him for that. It seems you want to bag most anyone that owns or uses one- It seems you have such an extreme view of them that you are hypersensitive to them. Anyone who uses them MUST be a zombie.

You're acting childish with the name calling and the silly picture but at the same time, you're acting like an old curmudgeon who refuses to advance beyond a certain point or see another view point, insisting that everything can satisfactorily be accomplished whilst sitting down, tied to a desk. Well, as Double Wasp pointed out, what was satisfactory before, is now better because of it.

What you say has some truth to it. No doubt there are plenty of zombies out there, but there is also no sense in not taking advantage of the technology since it is so readily available. Speaking to Wasp's remark about adding on dockside service, my viewpoint is if he didn't embrace the smart phone, then someone else may have- it could have cost him. Look at all the people making big bucks off of these things. Look at all the legacy companies that weren't quick enough to embrace the new technology of the internet and/or smart phones. They're being smashed flat.

Sounds like you need a smartphone to spice up your life a little. There's an app for that......

I've been abundantly clear that I take no issue with proper, moderate use of a smartphone. I've even said that they ARE very useful for business.
Silly picture? Of what?
Name calling? Harmless ranting with a bit of humor thrown in. But yes...I tend to reply in kind.

That will be the day.

As mentioned, I think there's quite a difference between the use of a smart phone as an extension of a desktop/laptop for business or personal use and the use of a smart phone as an interactive tool just to be "interactive".

My friend uses the term "scrotum society" instead of zombie to refer to the 'eyes down" cell phone walker who neither interacts with the reality of foot or vehicle traffic or the potential of increased danger involving pedestrian traffic at 2AM when the bars let out, etc. It's as if the user has a 12v battery attached to their respective scrotum or ovaries and focusing away from the screen will give them a helluva shock.

Personally, I view this kind of cell/smart phone use ( more than rampant ) as particularly irresponsible when it potentially puts other people in jeopardy. It's not something that I casually dismiss. That would be true if I were an old curmudgeon or a 15 year old who's already [censored] about an iPhone 7.

I prefer to separate the use of my cell phone from the use of my computer simply because I don't want to be "connected" like that. It's a preference where I don't think that I'm missing anything as whatever I need can usually wait...it's not something that I "need" if I don't have the phone in my hand. For me at least, that kind of "need" is for the most part intrinsically in the functions of the phone and not in the "reality" of the moment. People who don't understand what a Luddite is would likely call me that but I think there's a bigger picture here other than just adopting the technology or not.

Very good post and it is exactly what I've been saying....but some have taken my posts entirely misconstrued.

I find it shocking that anyone today would even think that these gizmos, and how most use them, hasn't completely and fundamentally changed our human interaction in a mostly negative way. Not only how we relate to each other, but how we see REAL things...or experience the thrill of discovery something new without the use of an "app".

I am thankful that you came into this thread and had the intelligence and ability to be so concise.

That is when they immediately dispatch a drone to your last known location.
