04 2500hd 6.0 M1 5w40 is the fill now.

I've been running oversized M1 filters M1-206, they run around $10 @ autozne. I've been thinking of switching to PureOne overzied PL25288.

Both seem high quality construction & have excellent filtration abilities.

Comments?

OCI? If you run long, I would stick with the M1. Up to 10K and I would think it a toss-up. I like the Pure One, but they are harder to find. No Pep Boys in the neighborhood, who are the only one I know who carries them. I have seen others mention prices similar to or exceeding the M1 price for the Pure One at other stores. At the same price or more, I see no reason to change.

Advance down the road has them--about 4 blocks futher than Autozone where I get the M1 filters.

LOL my OCI is 2000, 2500 TOPS.

Maybe 2-3 times a year is my oil chance, hence running short OCI's.

When I drain the oil it gets used in the mower, edger, etc

I change it so often because trips are short, when it is driven it's rarely driven. A 5,000 OCI would be about a year +

I've always been a little off when it comes to changing oil.

Why in the world are you dumping Full Synthetic out of a 6.0L GM engine at 2500 miles?

How many quarts does that thing hold? My 5.3 would take almost 7 quarts.

Even if you are towing a 5,000 lb trailer all day, everyday, you are wasting money. If you are towing that trailer, you should be making money.

You should go atleast 5,000 miles on Mobil 1 in that engine. I know you are dumping gas in it like there's a hole in tank.

Man...thats a ton of money going into a 3/4 ton truck.

Then quit wasting your money on synthetic oils! Use Havoline 10W-40 (or a thinner weight if your engine spec allows it) and use a Pure One oil filter. The only value a M1 filter has over a Pure One is if your OCI runs for a full year--the M1 filter material will likely withstand the oil-induced degradation better.

Both are good Oil filters, I don't think it matters which you choose.

I'd just stick to 2 changes a year unless out of warranty. Maybe then I'd go with yearly changes. Provided that a UOA doesn't show bad fuel dilution, and you get the engine up to temp every now and again..

It doesn't really save you that much using Cheap dino vs synthetic oil really especially when you consider the cost of gasoline, and other fees to operate a vehicle.
Atleast for one vehicle, I imagine a fleet would be a different thing.

You should be able to go one year with that combo. If you are dedicated to shorter intervals ..then you don't need the 5w-40 ..which unless you've got some type of severe service (as others here have mentioned) you don't need it even if you do want to go a year. It is surely the most bulletproof oil out there ..but if you only do short trips, you're churning a 60 weight (probably). You could probably save yourself some minor fuel $$ by dropping to a 20 weight even if your engine spec's a 30 weight ..since even the 20 weight won't ever see the temp to make it a 20 weight.

In any event, either the M1 or the PureOne are up to the task. I give PureOne the edge on value. I give M1 the edge on performance ...which you pay extra for.
