Spray carb cleaner

Depends. I just used some to clean my electronic throttle body and the engine can't be running.

If you are trying to seafoam it and have a normal throttle linkage you can spray with it running. Usually a heavy spray and then stall at the end.

Engine off when spraying the outside of the carb, engine running when spraying down the carb throat, this is for my Q jet. ;)

Just did this with aerosol Berryman’s carb cleaner yesterday, and it worked pretty well. Sprayed it down carb while running. I had my 12-year-old son push the gas pedal to keep the revs up while I sprayed it. I could just actuate the linkage myself but he wanted to help.

Now it doesn’t sound like it wants to die at a warm idle. 1963 Cadillac Coupe DeVille with Edelbrock (Carter AFB).

Thanks. I have an AFB carb on my 66 Plymouth. I have sprayed the outside of the carburetor to keep it clean but I always wondered if you can spray down the throat of the carburetor while it’s running. I’ve received mixed answers so I thought I would check with the experts

I just did this on my Genies Coupe with an electronic throttle body and accelerator pedal. I got a correlation code between the two and it basically disables the car. The first time I was about 30 miles from home and went to restart the car and it didn't want to start. Finally got it to and the idle was floating around, check engine light comes on and I clear the code. Got it restated and drove home. But it would not go anywhere after that due to limited throttle of about 1300 rpm.

A quick spray of the carb cleaner down the open TB at the pivot points and on the back of the throttle plate is all it needs. I bet it would cost the average driver over $500 before it was all over if they had it towed to a dealer.
