Best Injector cleaner With P.E.A. for the money?

Hello. It used to be a big deal to make sure you bought top tier gas. Now the latest trend is buying fuel injector cleaner with P.E.A. as its said to work much better chemically.

I've seen lots of evidence that P.E.A injector cleaners work, however not all of them can work equally and I'm sure one carrys more P.E.A than another.

So I've noticed that Stabil In season actually has P.E.A. but doesn't advertise how much (or maybe how little of it!)

Also seen several others. Is there any data to assist with a purchase of Injector cleaner that Contails P.E.A.?

Redline SI-1 30-40% PEA
Yes, along with Chevron Techron. There's a thread here about testing PEA additives (and a YT channel). It was difficult to get a clear answer to "best value PEA additive" because each product has different directions.

What I was hoping for was a list of products with a $/ml (or $/oz) of a certain PEA concentration.

Is this for PM or a cleanup of known/suspected CBU ?

Here is the thread related to that YT channel:

Analysis: PEA in different cleaners (Techron, Archoil, Oilsyn, Pro-Tec)

BG44k was the one that made a difference in my vehicle after many years of Techron use. I thought I was clean/maintained as never noticed a difference with about every 6 months use of Techron and maybe it was keeping it much better. I tried the BG44k after a friend recommended it. MPG went up and stayed up in my consistent daily drives (when driven normal). That happened for multiple other vehicles I used it on.

I almost always use Mobil/Exxon, Shell, BP.

We are all waiting for reviews, possible documented changes of the new Valvoline Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner.

I can support the idea that BG 44k was the only fuel cleaner I used that made a difference. Was using Techron thinking I could "maybe" feel something, more like a placebo effect. At the time, the Civic HX I owned had the Vtec-E engine, it was made for lean burn, high fuel economy (regularly got 39 mpg city, 45-50 hwy). But the problem was more air, less gas meant less cleaning of the intake (port injected). eventually Honda paid to do a top engine cleaning because of all the deposits. That brand was a 3M top engine cleaning kit. They said the problem might come back..

The problems did come back, the Techron didn't solve anything, except make my wallet lighter. Maybe Techron works for other cars but didn't do anything for the Vtec-e engine Found out about BG 44k, dumped that in the tank and you could tell the idle first got rougher as the cleaning took hold. It continued to dissolve the deposits even after the first tank (With the cleaner in it) was gone. With the 2nd tank of gas is when things really show..that's when the power increased and the fuel economy came back, not to mention the idle was so quiet you had to look at the tachometer to see it was running!

So yeah I'm not surprised of the chart @martinq posted up, makes complete sense to me.

I have used it on different makes since and same good result, so it wasn't just a Honda thing..

If I was having rough running / performance issues I would start with a PEA fuel additive (or Valvoline Restore and Protect fuel cleaner when it's available) and also switch to Valvoline Restore and Protect engine oil (if I wasn't in a hurry). Dirty injectors, valves and piston rings are no fun at all.

Redline SI-1 is a fuel system cleaner. Remember Top Tier Plus (+) is out.

Thank you for calculating that and posting it!

techron is BOGO right now at autozone.......so for the money, that what I would do.
You would need to use both bottles at the same time to come close to the one can of BG44k for PEA content. I think cheapest I saw was about $25 for 1 can of BG44k. So with the BOGO Techron deal at Autozone, you could get 4 bottles of the High Mileage Techron regular size bottle. The larger (I think 20 gallon) size of Techron Complete was $16.99 on BOGO. The regular size Techron Complete didn't have a BOGO tag on it? Maybe just need to check at the counter.

So looking for a cleanup, high PEA level, 2 bottles of Techron Complete at the same time, run that tank low. I'm not sure if @urman did a PEA test on Techron High Mileage. From there we have no details of what the Restore and Protect Fuel System Cleaner will do.

Redline and BG 44K are the highest concentrations. Regane and Techron were my regular go to as they are cheaper. I’d have to look closer to which contain a cylinder lubricant. Somewhat complicated because there are “high mileage” varieties same as with oil.

I hear you, but does concentration really mean better cleaning power? Is the percentage commensurate to removed carbon? Is it better to run a little at a time, of a bunch at a time? Is BG readily available?

Part of the cleaning sequence has to be the actual movement of the engine injection cycles, heat, vacuum, etc, and not directly tied to the % of PEA in the cleaner.

I would prefer a little bit, a steady stream as opposed to a higher one time treatment. Just me. You can have too much cleaner, like with anything else.

I suppose it has to do with how it is used as well, and perhaps an oil change afterward, and status of engine before cleaning.

Not an expert by any means, but soaking a dish in a cup of Dawn dish soap has not greater value than a TSP of Dawn dish soap. Still gotta do some scrubbing.
