So what is the deal with HPL Oil?

I always find it interesting when people criticize what others spend money on. We all do it time to time. The guy that thinks spending $100.00 on HPL for a 6-month interval is ridiculous could be the same guy that spends $500.00 on shoes for his 5-year-old kid, or $300.00 on alcohol at the bar per weekend or ".......".

There's a certain group that thinks that everybody that doesn't drive a 20 year old Corolla/Camry and use Supertech is suffering from severe megalomania.

Heck, there’s a certain group that thinks if YOU aren’t driving an EV, you are “literally murdering their children” and then they will physically attack you because you’re not assimilating with the Borg.

IMO, drive whatever you want, do whatever you want (especially splurging for the protection that an HPL-level oil offers! 😉) as long as you don’t harm anyone else’s person or property. ✌️

...or will only buy top tier non-ethanol premium fuel with a detergent supplement and octane booster for their '78 Chevy with 8.5:1 compression to "keep the rings clean" but praises Rotella (with its 12% Noack) as god's gift to engines. (Case I saw on Facebook yesterday)

100% agree. I find that many people are just cheap....to put it bluntly. Yet the same people will spend $6.00 on a latte, 7 days a week.

They are a sponsor and the current flavor of the month/year oil.

Well Castrol is dying out since more Magnatec. Now its carcass is being "chewed up" by HPL the new leader of the pack out in the "African oil lands" 🤪 🤪

Still trying to find the PBS special but looks like HPL is the new oil king mane !!!! Sad to see Castrol die on many clearance shelfs but it's the circle of life and the law of oil nature :)

Are you suggesting that because the majority of people do not want to spend a premium on oil especially one that voids their factory warranty they are cheap?

QS, Mobil 1, Valvoline, Supetech, etc are all good oils, cars have been running for decades and well over 200,000 miles and on many cases into the 500,000-1 million mile range on "cheap" oils.

In reality it is not being cheap, it is buying what does the job. HPL has it's place and I personally am going to consider it for my future plans with my S10.

Just because HPL exists doesn't mean everything else is all of a sudden trash.

I want the oil that Mobil 1 is making for the Red Bull F1 team.
Probably take an act of God to get that. 😑
It's probably something crazy like $200/QT

Mobil 1 probably sends them their M1 Racing 0W-30 despite it being on the heavy side. Whether or not they actually use that is only anyone's guess except for the crew.

No I am not. I am speaking of the people that penny-pinch and scoff at boutique oils as a waste of money.

100% agree. I wish people would stop saying off the shelf oils are not good. It's complete BS.

They are operating in two different markets - mass produced approved lubricants often using the latest base oil/additive technology vs specialized boutique brands that can offer more performance in key areas due to operating outside the chemical limitations box.

Nothing wrong with either depending on your situation and what you're looking for.
