So what is the deal with HPL Oil?

My take. Good oil but no starburst symbol or GF certification. Folks here will say because it cost a trillion dollars yet it is some of the highest price oil on the market. I don’t do UOA so can’t speak for that. But when I see a subpar UOA, everyone rushes to justify it. I’ll use it because I spent a few hundred dollars on a few oil changes, but it doesn’t seem like panda blood for the everyday user. Maybe in the racing world, which I am not. I won’t buy it again simply because I need the certifications for a warranty issue should one arise.

Any examples of a sub-par HPL UOA that folks were rushing to justify?

Where have you seen a subpar UOA for HPL?

If your take is based on misinformation, why take it seriously?

First off, a cheap spectrographic analysis is useless for determining comparative oil quality. That analysis is influenced by multiple factors other than the oil which are more significant for any result. If you are basing this determination on random UOA on here then you are basing that determination on entirely faulty data.

And second your warranty is not predicated on a certification. It is predicated on an oil that causes damage. The HPL product will not cause damage. Quite the opposite.

They finally put it on the website. Good. I use the 15w50 in my Royal Enfield 650 twin.
.
Wish they had done this two weeks earlier. I just did and oil change on my bike and wanted to use this. Motorcycle oil seldom goes on sale, and it's pricey stuff anymore. Even the cheap crap is $8 qt, and you feel and hear it. The quality spread between good and bad in motorcycle oils is way wider than the spread between cheap and expensive oils in cars.

Fortunately I knew about their MC oil and called them to place an order about six months ago. There’s always next time. I always had good performance from Mobil and Amsoil MC oils. What do you use?

I’m not so sure Nissan would see it that way. Our 24 specifically says gf6, 0w20 with the api symbol. I doubt I would ever have an oil related issue, but why chance it. I doubt Nissan would go along with the whole (trust me it’s great oil) thing if they were looking for any reason under the sun to get out of a warranty claim. When the early 2.5s were sucking in pre cats my tech said they were demanding service receipts and or store receipts.

So...show them the receipts. It would be up to them to prove the oil was insufficient. They won't be able to do that.
