Sister Bought A Hyundai Sonata

Last night my sister purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS to replace her 2001 Hyundai Elantra with 200k+ plus miles.

2011 Sonata, Certified Pre-Owned, 33,000 miles. Was leased and serviced at the dealer we bought it from.

Paid 13,000 plus tax, tag, ect.

Has 7 years left on the original 10 year, 100,000 miles powertrain, and a few years left on the bumper to bumper.

Car is immaculate, not a scratch on it, and the underside is just as clean.

It's a nice improvement from her old car, which has become increasingly unreliable.

How do BITOG'ers think we did?

Does the certified pre-owned status extend the 100k mile warranty to the second owner? Because normally the 100k mile warranty is only for the original owner. Subsequent owners only get the 60k bumper-to-bumper.

For a '11 with only 33K @ $13K I'd say she did great. Looks like the car is in excellent shape. Good luck and since this is BITOG, what type of oil is she going to use?

The balance of the 100k warranty transferred to her. We were very clear on this point, as it was something that we wanted for her.

Warranty expires 6-17-2021, or 100,000 miles, whichever hits first.

My co -workers like the Altima better though This is not a vehicle size or type I would personally consider as I only commute as one person and don't do extensive highway miles or carry any passengers.

Nice. I've been very impressed with this model. A co-worker bought a 2013 Sonata Limited, and it has been flawless. We have several of them in the parking lot here at the office, and we only have around 100 employees.

Congrats and enjoy many years of trouble free motoring. Whatever oil used, stick with the OCI in the manual (7500 miles for normal or 3750 for severe svc I believe). Beautiful car!

I don't really dig the exterior styling, but the interior is nice and I frequently hear that it's a good car. It sounds like she got a killer deal on it.

The shifter is a regular "depress button and pull back" for park, reverse, neutral, and drive. You can move it down a notch and to the left, and then "manually" shift the transmission by moving the stick left and right.

She'll just leave it in drive.

I'm not a huge fan of the exterior either, but the inside is well laid-out and comfortable.

She wasn't extremely picky, just wanted a reliable 4 door car with decent gas mileage.

We looked at several certified cars at a few dealers. She really liked the newer Civics, but they were a little out of her price range for comparable cars.

She really likes it, and we are picking it up today (it was too late for detail and a few other things).

There are lots of Hyundai's in the parking lot at work now too. I think people find Toyota/Honda are a little to proud of their vehicles and find the Hyundai equivalent a little cheaper with a few more options on them. Add in the long warranty and they are sold on it. Especially the SUV's, many more hyundai's than toyota's.
