sig 556??????????'s

what do y'all think about the sig 556?not the decked out one just the plain vanilla version.i hear that they will accept ar-15 mags which is a bonus.just wondering what y'alls thoughts,mainly reliability and accuracy, are on this weapon for a shtf rifle.

Far as I know, they are top of the line as far as workmanship and quality. Im guessing accuracy is right up there or the Swiss wouldnt use them. Not cheap to buy new though.

They are junk compaired to a quality AR or an XCR. Sig's quality has droped a lot in recent years ever since Rob Cohen took over. He ran Kimber in to the ground and he is doing it to Sig. This has been discused at length on Sigforums.com. The 556 has lots of problems with most being major. Skip it and get an XCR.

thanks chris for the lowdown.i have 2 nib colt m4's.but am saving them for "collector value" maybe one day LOL!who makes the xcr and what makes it so good of a battle rifle?i really like the SCAR but don't like the price LOL.

Almost every XCR I have seen has had to make a trip home to Robinson Arms for a fix. They are not that great either.

All of these new rifles look cool, but dont offer enough improvement for the common citizen to justify their cost.

If you have a lot of cash to blow you might as well get a HK416, FN SCAR, or the Bushmaster ACR.

US made Sigs are not as nice as the Euro made ones. Same goes for Beretta USA vs Beretta Italy.

AR15 and best of the best are not usually compatible since the AR system came in dead last in the most recent testing my the US military. Its a decent gun, but not "the best of the best" no matter who makes it.

Today I was able to shoot the Sig 556 it was a really well balanced rifle, the trigger was nice "military type trigger "it functioned perfect and was easy to shoot and as most rifles of this caliber the recoil was none . I would buy one without reservation. Upon cleaning the bolt and the extractor seemed really heavy duty. This is not the folding stock model.For the $$$$ I would buy an AR from BCM them Colt AR which costs more.

I was referring to the BCM rifle and parts, I have since 1976 owned 4 Colt AR variants and the BCM is the tops . I totally agree the AR has a problem and it is the DI gas system.

Well that and the bolt is undersized and barely good enough for the bolt thrust of the 5.56 round and the extractor design is poor.

It has worked barely good enough for the US military for 40 ish years. The military brass and the politicians are from the same mold. Every gun on the market has some flaw that some one can find.

The military always goes the cheapest route that will get it by.

Unless you are a gun collector or just want a Sig, there isn't any real use for them.

An AR is like a small block Chevy: You can get parts almost anywhere and there are more accessories for the AR than any other rifle.

My friend with the Sig just sold it as he felt it is not a big improvment over the AR and the main reason is Sig will not sell parts to him.
