A quick timeline on stealth marketing:
1. SGT is rolled out. Initial board responses are skeptical (the norm for this board, because if it isn't green or GTL in a "conventional", people are bored).
2. SOPUS (Shell) offers to do a Q&A on SGT because of "all of the board interest."
3. Shell Q&A falls flat, marketing parroted answers don't resonate well.
4. Subsequent threads on SGT are tepid at best, antagonistic at worst.
Enter THIS thread:
1. Low post count user (one in this case) expresses interest in SGT. "Hey, first time poster, etc." Expresses interest in slightly more technical aspects of SGT (the very things Shell couldn't or wouldn't discuss in its Q&A). Mentions support of Mobil 1 to start comparison fixing and show an unbiased opinion.
2. Responses to initial post are skeptical and dismissive.
3. SECOND low post count user chimes in, "hey first time poster here, I'm also interested...seems to be xxx (low price) at WM, etc."
4. Response is ambivalent at best.
5. Higher post count user with a history of Shell/SOPUS support chimes in with comparisons to mobil 1 AP (high performance product) and "shell is right," "it hits the target market's needs," and "I trust SOPUS," along with other boiler plate facts that push the narrative.
6. Somehow we end up talking about whether blueberries are a better antioxidant choice for high mileage oils.
YMMV.
I'm a real user, who just bought my Ecoboost in January. I have never owned a Ecoboost or DI engine. I have always had overhead cam Triton engines and used the synthetic Blend 5w-20 from Motorcraft that I know is a Conoco Phillips Oil.
I have never owned a truck with less than 75,000 miles. My new truck has 36,000 miles on it as of today. I am trying to pick an oil that is easy to access and will work well for my application.
I know there is more than one way to skin a cat as they say.
Sometimes marketing for a good product works. That's why I am on here asking about the new oil SOPUS has put out. I have also had good luck with Rotella conventional in the past on a previous truck.
I am an BSME in education and a Quality Engineer by trade, so research on these topics is why I'm here on BITOG.
I have to admit, I'm new to the oil game, but I came here to learn and ask questions.
I frequent many other forums and now decided to join and post on this one to learn more.
No conspiracy here......
