As the title says there are currently 17 TSBs for the 2022-23 Toyota Tundra. I own a previous generation Tundra but like to keep up with the new releases for future consideration. For a company known for their reliability and a truck that had a pretty good reliability record, is this best we get as consumers for new offerings?

According to the one and only @AutoMechanic this is the new norm..

It's pretty normal for any new product. My wife's early (like first two months of production) '19 DT RAM had a number of TSB's (I don't think 17, but several) that were resolved in later production run vehicles.

This is typically why folks are advised to steer clear of FMY vehicles, but of course that's no guarantee that the vehicle will be a problem child or that a mature product from late in the production run, several model years deep, will be problem-free.

1, 2 even 5 I get...but 17!

To get an idea of the problems. Some of these do not seem trivial. The new thing not covered by a TSB is the driver's seat plastic on the side cracking. Some dealerships blame the owner and won't warranty the part and some have replaced the part 3x for customers under warranty.

Most of the new Tundra owners I have talked to have been happy with them. Only one reported an issue, and it was some interior trim. I think there have been a few issues (and some major), but they have been ok for the most part.

As opposed to the local Ford dealer here in a small town that routinely has at least F150 or F250 cab separated from the frame in the shop when I pass by.

Some manufacturers (like Ford) issue TSBs for things that are not really a problem and which apply to every vehicle they make, like for example a new coolant spec, a new oil spec, a new transmission fluid spec, leather cleaning procedures, door panel removal procedures, wire terminal repair kit usage, etc.

Some of those are pretty minor, but others? yeah, I can see why you might see them as a bit eye-opening.

Yanno, I would expect better out of a vehicle that averages $60,000+. But, with all the tech stuff on vehicles now-adays...

Some dealership was just trying to sell a Capstone with the hybrid engine for $89k...lol.

As an aside, when I go the the Lexus dealership they scan my license plate as I approach the indoor garage so they can greet me by name. Then I get a loaner 100% of the time and if it's quick and I don't go the customer waiting area is awesome. All that for $50K vehicle. When I go to Toyota it's a poop show in comparison. Most people seem disinterest. Constant upselling. I'd be afraid to shine a blacklight on the seats in their waiting area. They don't even give snacks. Now people are going to be brining their $90K to Toyota?

That does seem like a large number. The new Tundra does look good at least 😁

While similar, the front of the Sequoia looks so much better! They should just adopt it for the Tundra.

Yea, my Toyota dealer can be a crapshoot sometimes. Last free service on my old 2021 Tacoma they got grease on my door, messed up the center cap on my wheel, and got oil all over the skid plate. All in one visit!

Needless to say I will DIY all the stuff I can on my 2022.

Subaru dealer has been fantastic though.

🤷‍♂️

So I am looking at the current list of TSBs for a 2023 Tundra at the moment. One TSB applies to all 23 Toyotas because floor mat retention method was changed, a couple other ones that apply to all vehicles and are general information, one recall for the tonneau cover coming loose, one recall for a software update for the instrument cluster going blank, an adjustment to the ride height sensors on hybrids, another software update and certain ones have a bulletin for some DTCs that requires an updated fuel rail and cat that has been fixed after a production breakpoint. Nothing real major.
