I freely admit to being impatient. I know how unigue that makes me. I cannot apologize for that. Your response indicates that you very well may be one of the relics of which I spoke. Ha ha!
It is indicative of how most are not willing to even spend a few moments of their own thinking about how their actions affect others. My grandmother, after she became old and ornery, used to pull into intersections right in front of people. It was pretty scary. She used to tell us, "They have brakes, let them use them."
Some of us go through life seemingly oblivious to how anything we do affects anything around us. So, I am not so irritated by having to wait as I am by people who appear to be in a daze.
Comparing your grandma behind the wheel and standing line is two different things altogether.
By the sounds of it, your grandma illegally drove into an intersection, knowing that others would want to avoid a collision, forcing them to wait, when it wasn't their turn to wait.
In the retail situation, you placed yourself there, knowing, like it or not, checks are still accepted. It's a chance you're going to have to take.
Also FWIW, no, I'm not one of "those" people.

Do you have kids, jobs, and a schedule that leave you always almost late for all the appointment? They charge you $20/hr if you do not pick up your kids from daycare on time.
For me I tends to go grocery shopping after my kid go to bed, at 11:30pm, for the exact reason above.
I don't.
Why is it you're scheduling your self so tight? Who's fault is that? It's your job to structure your day accordingly. Other people shouldn't have to change their lives to appease you and your poor planning.
Also, in the big scheme of things, it's not really going to add that much extra time to your day. During an average transaction, maybe 1 or 2 minutes?
Patients are important. They make you realize that your life isn't nearly as impacted by things such as people who write checks as you think.
Have either of you two actually timed a transaction and the amount of extra time it takes to write a check? Not that big of a deal.
When I go somewhere, I may be hurried or I may not, but realistically speaking, 1 or 2, or even 5 minutes isn't going to affect me. If it does, it's my own fault and I shouldn't rush others for my mistake.
