Certain aspects of a motorcycle operation need friction in motorcycle applications. The clutch is one. The sprague assembly for the starting mechanism is another. I never had any problems with Shell products in my racing motorcycles. I have had problems with some motorcycle specific oils that did leave me with needing clutch replacement earlier than I had thought. I have used some auto based oils with no clutch problems, but I did have an occasional problem with cold starts. I haven't been a regular user of car based lubricants in bikes, so I can't explain much more than those items. I have regularly used Shell for years in my race bikes, in spite of their being contingency money available as a performance bonus: I do trust the product.
