For the price of RLI I'll stick with Amsoil 0W20, or perhaps give RL 0W20 a try. IMO two proven winners 3-4 OCI's to clean things up, then maybe get the same results or possibly worse using RLI. Not knocking the stuff, but let others post results, then get the feedback of respected Bitog Members. Then I'd consider it. It's still the new kid on the block.

Respected members are who turned me on to Amsoil, swung me over to PP, and have me looking at RL. Maybe in a few years I'll feel the same about RLI. Business is business and Mr.Dyson does have an interest in RLI, maybe small, but still an interest. He probably has his customers best interest at heart, I'll wait and see. My $.02.

I've used the 5W20 & now the 0W20 in my '02 Accord V6. I am also using the ATF in that car for the 4-speed AT. All my UOAs are here on the site searchable by my username - all they way back to factory fill on both components & every oil change.

I'm not really sure how folks can logically claim that Terry has been bought unless you also claim that he has been bought by many companies all along the way. I guess he has been bought in one way - consultant fees!

Remember, he has (still does?) recommend FP, Auto-RX, GC 0W30, PP, Shell fuels, etc.

He is a consultant as someone else also said. It is a completely different ballfield than Blackstone. Blackstone is a lab only. Terry doesn't have a lab with his name on it. He contracts all of that out to one particular lab.

Well Said and Thank You!

Terry hasn't been bought. He went after RLI. It was when his testing started showing positive things he started recommending their oils. It was related to problems with DI engines.

Not sure if you're referring to me but here goes. I never said he was bought, I said he had an interest in the company, no big deal. The man is well respected and knows his business. For the money I'll stick to Amsoil, and I am seriously considering RL oil. 2 proven winners IMO. When the RLI stellar UOA's start rolling in and the price drops a little maybe then I'll have a look. For now I'll pass.

I am having a hard time believing that Biosyn which goes for about $15.00 a quart is going to do a better job than Pennzoil Platinum which goes for $4.00 a quart when you buy a 5 Quart Jug.

I found an old post from Terry where he stated that he does use arx and he uses it with a cheap dino oil because the UOA's are just as good as the ones he has seen with more expensive oil's.

If I were going to consider Biosyn then I would have to see wear numbers that were at least 3 times less, I know I will not see that, so I will stick with Pennzoil Platinum.

I feel the same way. I'd run RL or Amsoil if I had the money for RLI. For now PP will have to do. When I was home Dad treated me to Amsoil. But give RLI sometime and my bet is you might just see those numbers

I agree. The value is just not there for me. I like what they are doing though.

PP/Synpower are better choices for the $.

+1 Way better for the money!

demar,

I wasn't talking to you just used the quick reply.

c3po,

RLI isn't $15/qt but more like $10/qt including shipping. Or at least it was when I last purchased in Sep-2009.

benjamming, I was going by what a member paid for 2 gallons of RLI with shipping, it came out to $120.00

I believe this was before September of 2009, do they have different oil's, and are some of there oil's priced higher, or are they all priced the same.

No problem, that quick reply button can sometimes confuse me. It's all good!

Is it to early for one of these?

It has got to be way less than that for you Americans. This past spring I bought 2 gallons of the RLI 0W30 from the Canadian supplier; with taxes the total was $95 CDN (maybe equivalent to $90 US)

Woody: Can I pour you a draft, Mr. Peterson?
Norm: A little early, isn’t it Woody?
Woody: For a beer?
Norm: No, for stupid questions.

That was funny... Never heard that before.

I run RLI in all of my equipment. I run it based on Terry's recommendation. I'm hard on my engines and run long OCIs, Terry knows that, and tells me that RLI is currently the best protection available.

I've known Terry for a long time, and from what I've seen of him, if running distilled water in the crankcase gave the best results, he'd recommend that. My impression of him is that, when a product meets RLI's performance at a better price, or beats RLI's performance, he'll be the first to let me know.
