RIP Actor Gene Hackman

It was Brooklyn along 86th St. under the el.
I lived on 79th ~20 Avenues to the west.
A few people I knew had, "I saw them filming The French Connection", stories.
Me? I was closer to the Odyssey 2001 Disco (a former carpeting warehouse) and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge where some Saturday Night Fever outdoor scenes were shot.

RIP Race car driver Gene Hackman
The French Connection being shown on a few channels. It was filmed in 1971 and is filled with great old cars.
With The French Connection and The Seven Ups' chase scenes, I thought Pontiac was going to dive into the performance pool's deep end.
What's with the shot 2 posts up? Was GH in a car film or did he actually drive?
The photo appears to be more 'movie promo event' than at a race track.
But he wasn't much of a carpenter.
Definitely one of my favorite actors. Sorry to see him go.
Hackman was very private, and didn't embrace his fame.
Besides, it costs the actor $75K to get a star on the Walk Of Fame. None of that was desired by him. He let his career speak for itself.

I saw footage of **** Smuthers racing and a photo of Ernie Kovaks' destroyed Corvair wagon.
Never had I heard of Gene Hackman driving for real.

This is an excellent point.
The Medical Examiner has released the cause of death for Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa. She died of a rare Hantavirus infection (transmitted by deer mice in arid Western climates) probably prior to his natural death from heart disease. He had dementia and may not have known that his wife had died or that one dog was locked in the crate. Too sad for everyone involved.

A picture might have been painted. Mr. Hackman with a failing heart and dementia, has rodents occupying and miltiplying in their residence. Wife dies from the rodent waste, Mr. Hackman hourglass has just a few grains of sand left in the hourglass, dies a week later not being able to comprehend his wife his dead, like an infant not knowing a parent died in a home.
A bit different detail on the Wife's death:
Arakawa, 65, died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare disease transmitted through rodent urine, droppings or saliva, officials said.
The carbon monoxide would have been more pleasant to be honest.
Just straight up sad.

Not sure what to think about this, but it's definitely a sad situation /
So my takeaway is that his kids couldn't be bothered to stay in touch.
So his wife laid dead for about a week from Hantavirus, and he had no idea due to his advanced Alzheimers. His wife was clearly his caregiver, but once she got sick and died, it was just a matter of time for him.
