For all the fans of “It’s A Wonderful Life” and Jimmy Stewart.

Curtis LeMay-his bombing techniques implemented in Tokyo were revolutionary, but by the '60s when he was AF Chief of Staff he was unpopular. Already the country was tired of war and the Woodstock generation was coming into full song. I was spat on when coming home through San Francisco. I try not to remember that.
Truly sorry and ashamed that happened to you. You did not deserve that at all. You do deserve our thanks even at this late date. I missed going to Vietnam by mere months.

I went home from Fort Sill to Seattle on August 23, 1974. People were nice the whole way, so they had pretty much gotten over what some of the real Vietnam Veterans went through. Or, I was lucky. We also went through San Francisco going from Fort Ord to Fort Sill without problems, but then there was quite a bunch of us.

When my Dad was in the Army , I was born on a snowy night in the Army Hospital at Fort Sill. Men with wives could live on the base then.

Dad had long since been out of the Army but I clearly recall my grandparents were at the house and all the adults were concerned and looking over the mail one day around 1967. I later found out the Army sent a letter asking him to reup as they needed as many ex military as they could get as Vietnam was really heating up. He was not made to return since we had a house full of us kids by then.

Ft. Sill!.. the only base I've been on.
back in '17 My buddies little brother enlisted, and did basic and AIT @ Sill. Buddy and I drove out for graduation, rest of their Family Flew in.
He went on to be an Artillery Sgt by the time he got out last year. he spent a BUNCH of time at Hood, about 6 months in Korea (Camp Casey i think?) shipped out after the Olympics, and then they sent everyone back to the states at the outset of Covid, back to Hood, some time in Romania after the Ukraine war broke out, and Finally a year at Ft. Campbell ( KY/TN border).

I was from King County in western Washington when I was at Fort Sill. July 5 through August 23 1974. I could not figure out how that part of the country ever got settled. On the bright side, there is a beautiful lake there. I live is Arizona now, so I understand living in a hot climate better.
