Record Surge in Past-Due Student Loans Adds to US Debt Burden

Agree, but there is sometimes an element of predatory lending to the vulnerable. I know a gal who holds a PhD, maybe a double PhD, in a Social Science discipline. Her family offered no fiscal guidance when the loans were offered. A huge mess that hounded, perhaps crippled, her for many years. The worst part is, I am not sure she has learned her lesson.

Personal finance needs to be taught starting in grade school and continued through HS.
If she is "that" smart, its on her to figure out that she must repay what she borrows, whoever her family is. Its not rocket science.

If she still hasn't learned her lesson by now, its a character flaw.

Almost every company with an HR department would benefit from eliminating it. The legal and regulatory functions could be farmed out for a fraction of the cost of employing the mostly female social engineers.
If this were true, why aren't companies doing so?
I can tell you one reason: supplying the company with qualified talent is critical to success. Companies are all about people.

Trades are what young adults should go into. HaHa people have no clue to be successful. Ran commercial and industrial hvac for 40 years. 38 years of continuing education some on mine time and contractor/ union. Work on a roof at -40° wind chill for days or roof 160° or a mechanical room over 100°. Education and theory worked for me. Made me more valuable to the contractor and union. Late 1970s and 1980s when work got bad never missed a day. Factories that walking in 5 minutes i was dirty. Called out at 2 am working 24 hrs straight. 5 minute job that lasted two weeks and there were more than a few. Construction is one of the only jobs that pays well for a excon, exboxer or exaddic. The job the contractor and union wouldn't trade a minute.

Fitter30,

What 5 min job would last 2 weeks ?

Just wondering….

Trades are great if you like working with your hands.
