I find it interesting that Ford chooses 5W-50 oil for their trak-pak cars and for the Shelby GT350. Clearly the coyote engine benefits from higher viscosity during high RPM/high temp track use. The same goes for BMW's very high RPM engines, they choose 10W-60 in an attempt at keeping rod bearings alive.
However, with that in mind, the rod bearing loads are greatest at very high RPM, due to inertia. Supercharging typically increases combustion loads, but not inertial loads. Leading to lower bearing loads than a similar engine making the HP via increased RPM.
Put another way, a rod bearing's inertial loads (due to higher RPM) can be far higher than the increased combustion loads of a supercharger.
