Toyota to recall about 110,000 Tundra vehicles

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Toyota Motor Sales (NYSE:TM) will recall about 110,000 Tundra vehicles sold in the United States due to safety concerns. The move was triggered by excessive corrosion on the frame rear cross-member of certain Tundra vehicles which operate in areas with high road salt use.

"In the worst case, the spare tire stowed under the truck bed may become separated from the rear cross-member. Spare tire separation will create a road hazard for following vehicles and increase the likelihood of a crash," said the Japanese auto maker in a statement. The recall will affect 2000 through 2003 models.

Yep, just saw the pics on TV. Wow - that's a LOT of rust!!

Cant be true its a japanese car they dont have any kind of problems what so ever!

Sounds like my parents 2000 Tundra. The toyota dealer took pics of severe rust but stated it passed inspection.

They do? I remember a huge class-action lawsuit to get Toyota to admit to the sludge debacle.......

Nope, there are others that dislike Toyota far more than I do. But when somebody posts something as baseless as you did, I have to point out the err in their statement.

Toyota is a car company. And like any car company, they like to make money. It took a LOT of people complaining to Toyota and the NHTSA make this recall happen. Just like it took a LOT of people complaining to those same bodies to make the Tacoma recall happen.

And it took a class-action lawsuit to make the sludge recall happen.

Toyota isn't out to give people money. They are no more apt to admit to their own follies without legal intervention than any other auto manufacturer. To put them on some moral pedestal as some patron saint of automotive manufacture because of their Japanese origin and subsequently assuming this somehow makes them more apt to own-up to their mistakes is ridiculous. They are a large corporation. Large corporations don't make money by telling people their product sucks.

Seeing your username, I realize that you are likely a Toyota fan. I am not criticizing you for that. I'm a very vocal Ford supporter. But their track record has been tarnished in the past as well. It goes hand-in-hand with producing millions of vehicles and trying to make the most money doing so.

What does your Supra run? Got a timeslip?

Just imagine what people would say if it was GM truck frames rusting like that! I don't care what anyone says Toyota trucks always were junky rust buckets.

If you've got anything less than twins in that Supra, you better keep it out of SE Michigan....lol.

There are plenty of Fords and Chevys in my neck of the woods that would own that little thing and then go have a smoke and laugh about it.....Want to meet up in Milan sometime? They got a little 1/4 mile track they'll be glad to let us use.

That is pretty bold statement not knowing what anyone else in this thread drives.

I find it strange that no GM economy cars ever got recalled. Some of them were absolute rot boxes. Or Dodge cars. We had a 2001 neon that failed inspection due to a rotted out frame.

It must be time for me to move south, or west, or southwest :)
