Oil Change on the Corolla today and used the Valvoline Synpower and Genuine Toyota Filter made by Denso I had in my garage. It's been almost 6 months and my trip B reads 6455 miles since my last oil change.

Oil Change for the Celica next week

Now that I've looked at the diagram much closer, I see that it is in a similar position as the Corollas'. I will visit Autozone to see if they have a pcv valve for it and go from there.

I can't believe how simple it is to replace a part that is so critical to engine life. Thanks!

if you can do one you can do them both! you got this man. get after it!!!

oh yeah! Thanks for the support.

I removed the valve from the Celica today but no one had the replacement part in stock.

O'Reily's is the only place that could order one with a 16-mm thread so I had them do it. Will pick it up tomorrow morning and replace it.

Couldn't have done it without your assitance Electro! You rock!

Eosyn.....I have ordered parts from www.rockauto.com
Another site that I use athat I like....for GENUINE TOYOTA parts is www.toyotapartszone.com The the toyotapartszone site......you will get the BEST results by entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).....so that the most approriate parts for your specific vehicle will be listed.

Yes! Finally got the PCV valve replaced in my '02 Celica and here are the pics

LOL, wouldn't go that far

lol maybe not but i bet you could do a tune up on one of those now. the coils are right in the middle of the valve cover. pull em off and the plugs are underneath. so when its time youll know what to do
smile.gif

something else people dont think about is the fuel filter. if your cars have one it should be replaced every 30k. just something to look into....

looking forward to my trip so I can video tape my bro-in-law showing me how to change spark plugs, grease up all the joints, etc.

But I do look forward to replacing the spark plugs. I don't think my Toys have a fuel filter. at least when I look up parts on the wix site, it has "not serviceable" thingy next to fuel filter.

what coils are you referring to? Isn't a "tune up" nowadays just replacing the spark plugs? are timing belts even used anymore?

MMO suggest adding 20% to motor oil. Think using 25% will hurt? I'd rather have it easy and pour 1 qt MMO to 3 qts oil, unless 25% will be bad for the engine.
confused.gif

MMO is fine up to 25% but i wouldnt push it.
iF your pcv cloggs up you wont be able to tell by driving it, so just change it every 50k.

a tune up for yours is changing the plugs, if you look at the pics you took of the new pcv installed you will see 4 black square things in the middle of the valve cover with wires going to them. they one grey bolt holding them down. pull the bolt, pull the coil up and the plug is under there. you can do it! just start pulling stuff off
lol.gif

thats the coil pack. looks like a 10 or 12 mill bolt holds it down. remove the bolt and pull up on it. very easy

i use MMO alot and when i add 1 qt to 6 qts of oil it comes out to about 15%. it always does its job.
maybe you should start off with 1 pint added 3.5 qts of oil and see what happens. i think that puts you at 12%. which will still show some results and not thin the oil too much

Your fuel filter must be like the one on my 2003 Toyota Sienna, it is part of the fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank.....not a routine change item.

THIS picture shows what the coil looks like on my Sienna.....the right-most coil is out.

IF you change the spark plugs, I would recommend that you stick with the EXACT plug number that is called for as Original for your car (Unless TOYOTA has updated their specification to another plug).
They may list a DENSO or NGK plug for your car.
Rockauto lists DENSO Iridium SK16R11 which has a Iridium center electrode and a platinum enhanced ground tab.
They also list DENSO PK16R11 which has a Platinum center electrode and Platinum enhanced ground tab.
I don't know which your car came with, but it will be one of those 2......although you should be safe using the Iridium in place of the platinum if it came with platinum.

Personally, I would AVOID the "peformance upgrade" (that you are unlikey to notice) of the DENSO IK16 plug with the 0.4mm diameter center electrode in place of the 0.7mm center electrode.
I did some reading on the DENSO website and found that DENSO rates the 0.4mm version for 30K miles whereas they rate the 0.7mm for "up to 120K Miles".

As for oil, if a non-synthetic oil was used, it is worth noteing that (in general) a non-synthetic oil has more evaporation than a high end synthetic oil.
More evaporation usually means more deposits as you see on the baffel under the fill cap.
I say "high end" because the line between "synthetic" and non-synthetic is quite blurred.
The good non-synthetic oils have come a LONG way over the past 10 years.
Also, as mentioned in one of the posts above, it was mentioned that the pistons run hotter in your Celica.
A synthetic oil generally has better heat tollerance.
Are the pistons running hot enough to NEED a synthetic?.....I don't know.
I use synthetic oil (Redline), which is way overkill for my application.

The oil that you show in your picture is well respected on this site and will serve you well.

To Bill-In-Utah's point, there are some very good non-synthetic oils out there and he has given you some good advice for your vehicle.
I would NOT run a non-synthetic for an "extended" oil change interval of over 5K miles in your motor.....however, you are not looking to do that anyhow.
I don't run synthetic for the LONG periods that some folks on here do, but then my 1MZFE motor is not known for doing well with extended runs with oil.

I have not used MMO so I have no advice to give with it.
I have used AutoRX in the past.....even with Redline in a "maintenance dose" based upon a old post by a member "Molakule".
However, I will be first to tell you that your vehicle does not require a $10 per quart oil.

I have read a number of posts on here that folks have put up about their experiences with MMO, and they would be better able to advise you.
Although 20% does sound a bit high for the MMO, I would prefer a lessor amount, like the 12% electrolover mentions.
You have selected a good oil, and you are trying to enhance its cleaning ability without reducing the benefits of the oil that you ae using.

so those are called "the coils" LOL, no wonder I wasn't able to locate the distributor or the spark plug wires (that's how I find the spark plugs, by following the wires). Guess you could tell it's been a while since I had a course in engine tune ups.

Very nice picture Wiswind! very clear, and if you had not mention the right coil was out, I wouldn't have even noticed it right away.

Thank you both of you for your posts and pics and for helping me out. that is very cool of you. Yes, I've been "listening" to Bill's advice.

Spark plugs are always a fun job, my only problem with them is, I seem to cross-thread them when I put the new ones in LOL. I'll try to work on it when I'm down in KS, cuz for the next few days, i'll be packing and loading up the Celica and shopping and taking the wifey-poo out for her birthday.

gonna head out later today to pick up 5 qts of QSGB and a STP oil filter for $15 at autozone and put it in the Celica.

I'm finding working on my vehicles during my time off is fun again! Did some easy jobs when I was younger on my cheap vehicles but then college got "in the way"
smile.gif
With you guys' advice and assistance, I'm finding the fun again. Thanks!
